Topic: Government investment in the arts, such as music and theatre, is a waste of money. Governments must invest this money in public services instead. To what extent do you agree with this statement?
Band 6 IELTS Essay
Governments do spend a lot of money on various public services which includes education, healthcare, finances, etc whereby these help in the development of the society and a country as a whole. However, artis such as music and theatre are part of a country’s cultural presence which acts as source of employment and professions for many.
I believe that it is important for the government to spend on public services but it is equally essential that they make investments in arts as well. I however, do not consider it to be a wastage of money. In supporting the invetsments made by government on public services, I imply that these investments are necessary for social development and ensuring that basic necessities of life are fulfilled by the government. Education and healthcare are of primary importance in today’s world and invetsments in these sectors imply that higher benefits can be reaped by the society. People would be able to access better and advanced healthcare facilities while proper educational investments through shcolarships would enable even the poor people to acquire higher education. However, people in the profession of arts such as music and theatre form an important part of the society. It is important value and acknowledge their talent and the fact that these can chosen as effective form of profession. Government investments in the arts would mean that the professions like music and theatre would gain recognition and aspiring people would want to expand their horizon through it. People in the society find pleasures in watching theatre based plays and shows along with the musical performances which serve as their leisure times. Galleries and operas help people to spend their time acknowledging art in the most efficient ways. Hence, I do not feel investments made by governments in arts such as music and theatre can be considered as a waste of money.
Band 7.5 IELTS Essay
It is true that different forms of art like music, theatre, etc have gained huge popularity in today’s world. However, even the public services including education and healthcare remain the centre of importance in today’s society. I believe that investments by government cannot be considered waste of money for the purpose of arts but definitely the focus needs to be more on the public services where financial investments are concerned.
In this essay I would discuss both aspects. Art and music provide long-term worth which enrich people’s spiritual life. Art and music gives destination for visitors to contemplate. Art and music will generate a huge profit. The need for arts is increasing these days because of their long-term worth at the time when the countries are reaching the peak of economic development and it gears towards sustainable growth. With the popularity of music, painting and other kinds of arts is continuously enriched people’s spiritual life. Some cities like Florence, Paris, and Madrid are famous for their spectacular artistic creations and unforgettable destinations of millions of visitors. Well-known art geniuses from Picasso, Leona De Vinci to Gaudi was born in these cities who led art revolutions. It only happens because of their governments’ greater appreciation in this field. America and Britain are the examples of countries where the music industry grows faster which provide the key for their next generation’s profit. This is possible because of their governments’ collaboration for organising musical shows and festivals for attracting audiences from worldwide. When governmental collaboration takes place with these art forms eflecting culture it enhances a nations’ potential to attract more tourism. However, public services like education and healthcare are part of a country’s main societal development. It is true that arts are teh cultural traditions but without proper education and healthcare, a society would crumble down. For instance, Bollywood filsm making huge profits adds to the theatrical taxes in India. Accordingly, education and healthcare as public services need to include more investments considering that people need access to these areas which are the basic necessities of life.
Band 8 IELTS Essay
The government’s budget for fulfilling various social demands such as health care, infrastructure and other mental relaxation such as arts remains controversial. Some people demand that money should be invested for public services and less for the arts, while others believe that contribution in art and music help social development.
However, people have the notion that investment in arts is a waste of money and I completely disagree. It is true that arts require significant amount of recognition in today’s world from the government. It helps in social development for people to actually find leisure in something which is highly culturally inclined. Moreover, it acts as a source of entertainment in the industry allowing people to be extremely happy about it. Certainly, people think that mental relaxation by watching theatre or music can be controversial. They consider that these professions do not require much government attention as much as other public services like health and eductaion. Certainly, it is essential that these areas are more focused on by the government ensuring that they are able to enhance greater efficacy. Reduction of poverty and illetracy needs to be of higher priority than arts. However, this does not mean that government’s support is not required for music and theatre. It is indeed required and should be made in terms of people’s welfare in the society. However, other societal concerns should be taken care of ensuring all round development.
