Sample Question and Answer for IELTS Academic Writing Task 2

Environmental protection is a very important and trending topic for IELTS academic writing task 2 and candidates may get questions relating to this topic for IELTS writing task 2. Here is a sample question followed by an essay on environmental protection.

Sample question: High fuel price is the only way to decrease all types of environmental hazards. Do you agree or disagree?

Sample answer:

Environmental hazards had long been overlooked even by the responsible citizens as the solution to these may require a major change. One such solution is increasing the fuel price. I agree that the high price of fuel can help to decrease the level of air pollution and global warming but it cannot be a solution to protect the environment from all types of hazards.

There is no way to disagree with the fact that the high fuel price can reduce over-consumption of fuel. Slowly but surely it will result in lower temperature that can secure the environment. Overuse of fuel gives rise to greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and Chlorofluorocarbon or CFC. The increase in these gases is a direct cause of global warming and the cheap price of fuel also gives hint at the overuse of cars. It means a higher level of air pollution due to the harmful gas emission from cars as well as from the industries.

On the contrary, I believe that increasing fuel-price cannot be the only solution for protection against environmental hazards. I think awareness among people is more important. Until human beings understand that they are harming the environment and making the environment unsafe for them and for the next generation, the high price of fuel will hardly cure the matter. Apart from pollution, much of the environmental hazards cause due to deforestation, the application of chemicals during harvest, emission of industrial waste in water bodies, and plastic – these are direct threats to our health. An increase in fuel price will hardly solve these. Along with an increase in fuel price, environment-friendly technology, sustainable and renewable sources of energy, and biodegradable materials are much needed to protect the environment.

I believe high fuel price alone will not be capable of protecting the environment from the hazards; however, it is a brave idea to reduce air pollution and global warming. But environmental hazard is not just these two! It also means deforestation, the use of chemicals and pesticides in soil, and much more. I think we should go green to get rid of environmental hazards and make this world breathable for all of us.
