Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

The 21st century has witnessed an increase in life expectancy along with an increase in population. This can pose some problems or have beneficial outcomes, depending on the variable factors of a particular society. The first and foremost negative effect the aging population has on society is in terms of the economy. The overall working population reduces because old people are less likely to work and earn for themselves actively. This is because, with an increase in age, their health starts to decline.

The healthcare costs also increase along with their age and the state, on the other hand, has no other option, but to provide efficient services for their welfare. Old people tend to become dependent on their family members, or other caregivers. This can reduce the productivity of the workers in professional aspects because they have to manage their work along with challenging family needs. This can lead to mental stress and ultimately, it brings inefficiency in their performance. On the other hand, the considerable increase in the aging population in the past century is assuredly an indicator of the growth, evolution, and scientific advancement of mankind. There has been an improvement in the fields of science and medicine with the help of elderly people as these fields are better for the ones with experience. With the contribution of the aging population in these fields, are now immune to diseases and living longer lives. Governments should technically be supporting thse groups of elderly people ensuring that they have access to healthcare facilities and monetary requirements to enhance their quality of life even at old age when they have no one to look after.

Band 7 IELTS Essay

Most of the countries in the wolrd are experiencing the matter of higher life expectancy implying that the aged population is increasing. However, while this trend is considered negative in various aspects, the positive conditions should also ne taken into account. Taking first the cons of the situation that is considered on a larger basis, aged population is considered to be burdensome in a society. The need for working poopulation and their demand is to increase the economic conditions of a society. The older people have higher responsibilities for the working population in terms of taking care of their health as well as the need to look after their monetary requirements. The older population moreover do not have the ability to contribute to the economy but becomes burden even for the government in terms of providing pension and othe financial benefits.

If the society is advanced and developed enough, and the healthcare system is adequate, the aged population cannot be called a burden. People who have contributed to society in their previous years, deserve to be taken care of in their old age. It is a natural part of life to get old, and it would only be fair that our institutions become effective in meeting the needs of old peopleOld people can be valuable assets as well in society because of their years of experience and wisdom. They can contribute to the areas of teaching, research, science, politics, and academics. Policies and programs introduced for the benefit of old people can sufficiently make their lives convenient and relaxed. On a humanistic note, old people in the family are a treasure and they are much admired for their valuable guidance. The family bonds get strengthened when all the members look after each other and help each other, further laying the foundations of a healthy community spirit. Thus, an aging population can prove to be an asset or a burden, depending on how that population is viewed, managed, and regarded in society.

Band 8 IELTS Essay

The longer life expectancy is increasing in many countries implying that more people are getting older in most countries and this is seen as both a positive and negative development. The positive development implies that with growing older population, it means that a country has greater developments in terms of medical and healthcare facilities enabling them to have higher levels of effectiveness in dealing with their old age access to healthcare.

It becomes important to consider the fact that many new insititutions have come up to take care of the older people after their retirement as part of old age homes which provides them with facilities like food, accommodation and even engaging them in work they would be interested in. However, it becomes the sole duty of the younger generation in a family to take care of the older ones. For instance, in India, parents in their old age are taken care of my their children which is a common aspect in Indian or widely in Asian culture. However, there are negative aspects of increasing ageing population for a country where the birth rate is stgnant or decreasing. It would simply imply a growing burden on the government in requiring to fund the monetary requirements of these aein population. Lack of income due to decreasing working population would put pressures on the government and further labour costs would increase for businesses due to shortage of workers. Hence, both positive and negative aspects can be identified within the world’s growing ageing popultaion although I feel negatives are higher.
