Band 8 Answer

With the growth in urbanization and technology paving new roads every day, the type and the quantity of waste generated have also undergone a tremendous change. Thus, waste disposal has become a very important responsibility for all countries. Different countries use different methods for the disposal of their waste materials. The choice of methods depends upon various factors like- the amount of waste generated, economic condition, technological development, resources available, and others. However, of all the methods used in waste disposal the most popular are- Landfill, Incineration, recycling, and composting.

In most countries, incineration and landfill are more popular than the other two alternatives. In Toronto, the process of landfilling is used to dispose of more than 70% of the total garbage, and more than 10% by the method of Incineration. The remaining minimal amount of garbage is only recycled or used in composting, where recycling takes a little lead over the composting. Kuala Lumpur presents an almost opposite number in the case of landfilling and incineration. Here incineration takes up more than 50% of the waste, whereas landfilling takes up only a little over 10%. Though recycling here is a more popular choice than landfilling, taking more than 20% of the total waste generated, composting is still the least favorite with lesser than even 10%.

In Madrid, the figures are not so contrasting, though recycling and composting are not the priorities here too with about meager 20 percent and 10 percent. At the same time, landfilling and incineration are the choices for about 30% and 40% of the total garbage disposed of. In Amman, the figures for landfilling and incineration go hand in hand whereas the figures for recycling and composting are pretty close. The method of landfilling is used to dispose of more than 40% percent of the garbage and incineration for about another 40%. In the remaining amount, the process of recycling takes very little over 10 percent leaving composting reduced with lesser than even 5%.

Band 7 Answer

The increase in industrialisation has led to increased garbage dumps. The above-mentioned bar graph presents a comparison between 4 different cities that have their own set of methods and approach in order to ensure waste disposal. These cities as mentioned in the graph can be highlighted as; Toronto, Madrid, Kuala Lumpur and Amman. The data represents the percentages of the four most common approaches to waste disposal, i.e Landfill and Incineration, recycling and composting as portrayed in the above graphs.

It can be concluded from the graph that Toronto attempts to dump garbage by the means of landfills at an approximate weightage of 70%. However, Amman on the other hand adapts the process of landfills to dispose of 50% of its garbage dumps. In addition, the statistics of the usage of landfilling as a process to dump garbage falls drastically in Madrid and Kuala Lumpur. The statistics for Madrid attempting landfill as a waste disposal has fallen down to the percentage of 29%. Moreover, the statistics for Kuala Lumpur associated with the process of landfills is the lowest being 18%.

Incineration on the other hand, is a popular method and is highly attempted by Kuala Lumpur. Kuala Lumpur appoints this process of waste disposal at large and disposes of more than 50% of its waste. However, Amman and Madrid on the other hand deploy this method in order to dispose of waste with constant statistics of 38% and 40%. Recycling of wastage on the other hand is attempted to be implemented as a process at the rate of 23% in Kuala Lumpur and Madrid. Recycling, however, is adapted to dispose only 10% of the wastes in Toronto and Amman. The least used method of waste disposal is Compositing and this method is used to dispose of about 2-8% of total wastage in these four cities.

Band 6.5 Answer

With the onset of industrialisation 4.0 and increased processes of urbanisation have led to increasing in the accumulation of waste. The bar graph portrayed above showcases a potential comparison between 4 different cities and there approach to management and disposal of waste. These statistics highlight the comparison between Toronto, Madrid, Kuala Lumpur and Amman. These processes of waste disposal that have been portrayed in the graph are; Landfill and Incineration, recycling and composting.

The graph indicates that Toronto makes an effort to dispose of trash in landfills, with a weighting of about 70%. On the other side, Amman modifies the landfill disposal technique to get rid of 50% of its rubbish dumps. Additionally, figures show a sharp decline in the use of landfilling as a method of rubbish disposal in Madrid and Kuala Lumpur. The data for Madrid's attempts to dispose of rubbish in landfills have decreased to a rate of 29%. Additionally, Kuala Lumpur has the lowest statistics (18%) for the process of landfills.

Incineration on the opposite side, is highly attempted by Kuala Lumpur. This is used to dispose off more than 50% of the waste that is produced in Kuala Lumpur. Incineration stands at low and is attempted least in Amman and Madrid. Recycling is attempted to dispose off 10% of the wastes in Toronoto and Amman. Composting holds the position of least use method for garbage disposal.
