Topic: The line graph below shows the employment patterns in US between 1930 and 2010. You are required to summarize the information given and report its main features and make comparisons wherever its relevant. Write at least 150 words
Band 6 Answer
The line graph shows labour force employment patterns in US between 1930 and 2010 for a period of around 80 years. The employment pattern shown in the graph includes from industrial levels, sales and office, farming, fishing and foresting, technical and other services sectors. In the year 1930, the share of labour force in farming, fishing, and foresting was at 75% while sales and office contributed only 10%.
The same trend continued for another 20 to 30 years. From the year 1970, the share of labour force in technical and Industrial services started increased consistently for the next 40 years until 2010. The year 1980 is significant among all years for there is a change in the pattern of employment. The share of the labor workforce in farming, fishing, and foresting declined while industrial and technical workforce share has increased to 13% and 10% respectively. Sales and offices have also started seeing a rise in the workforce only from 1980. In the year 2000, the share of the workforce in farming, fishing, and foresting fell from 40% in 1980 to 10% in 2000. The gap in the workforce was filled by other major sectors like sales and office, industrial, technical which occupied more than 20% of the workforce.
Band 6.5 Answer
The above line graph is able to present clear illustration regarding the USA labour force employment in the year 1930 to 2010. taking the aspect from major industries, the trends across 80 years was clearly visible trough the line graph where technical and industrial level employment has increased and farming, fising and foresting have seen a decline in the labour force.
In the year 1930, the major sector that has contributed to the workforce employment pattern in US was farming, fishing, and foresting sector while the technology sector contributed to the least share of labour. From 75% labor force in farming, fishing, and foresting in 1980, it fell to 2% labour force in 2010. The drop in workforce was gradual until 1970, after which it fell drastically. There was a more than 70% drop in the major sector in the overall period of 80 years. Three sectors emerged as major workforce contributors in 1970 namely Sales and Office, technical and industrial sectors. Industry and technical sector workforce accelerated to around 35% while sales and office share increased to around 8%. Thus, sales and office, technical and industrial workforce are the ones that rose and occupied the gap created by farming, fishing, and foresting sectors from 1970 to 2010.
Band 7.5 Answer
The above line graph provides clear comparisons regarding the US labour force employment between the years 1930 to 2010 implying a period of 80 years. It becomes important to focus on the fact that sectorsincluded within the employment of labour force included that of industrial levels, sales and office, farming, fishing and foresting, technical and other services.
The share of labour force employment in the USA in 1930 was as high as 75% which dropped and declined completely to that of 10% in 2010. This was a major shift and decline in the industry’s employment. Further, while sales and office, technical and other services did not find pace of employment during 1930 to 1960, since 1970’s its started to increase its levels of employment which continued consistently till 2010. 1980 can be seen from the graph to have been making changes in the evel of workforce employment. Technical and industrial workforce has seen an increase in employment by 13% and 10% respectively. Furthermore, the sales and offices has seen a rise frim 1980 by 10% to 20% in 2010. The forest, fishing and farming employment workforce declined massively by 30% from 1980 to 2010. This gap in workforce was filled y other sectors who can be seen to be increaseing theoir workforce patterns significantly in 2010 unlike in 1930 where the foresting, fishing and farming had the largest employment of workforce.
