Changes in Modes of Travel between 2001-2006 IELTS Writing task 1 sample answers are given below. The candidates are required to present a tentative answer for the same. Topic: The table below gives information about changes in modes of travel in the Netherland between 2001 and 2006. Describe the information in the table and make comparisons where appropriate. You should spend around 20 minutes on this task.

Band 6 Answer

The chart shows the average distance covered by different transport in Netherlands between 2001 and 2006. The numbers given here represent the miles and it shows how the preference of the local people got changed over time.Overall, people traveled more in 2006 compared to 2001. Overall, based on all the modes the average distance by miles that has been given in the table is 4740 in 2001 and 6475 miles in 2006. It can be seen that there has been a major increase in the average distance travelled by per person in Netherlands.

Cars happen to be the best mode of transportation throughout. Apart from walking, people using bicycles and local buses, and all other categories show an increase in terms of distance traveled.Specifically, the car covered a distance of 3,199 miles on average in 2001, and it seems to have a sufficient rise - 4,806 miles after 5 years in 2006. Trains (289 miles to 366), long-distance buses (54 miles to 124), as well as taxis (13 miles to 42), had an overall growth in the distance covered. On the contrary, walking and bicycles got a moderate decline in the distance covered. Accordingly, while in 2001 people walked for 255 miles on an average it declined to 234 in 2006. Bicycles were a mode of travel for people travelling 51 miles in 2001 it decresed to 41 miles. The number of people using local buses to have a significant decay as the distance covered dropped from 429 miles to 274 miles in 5 years.

Band 6.5 Answer

The above table chart provides information regarding the average miles that people travel using particular mode of transport in Netherlands. Accordingly, the data has been focused on a comparative analysis regarding the different modes of travel used by people in two different years of 2001 and 2006. It shows how people’s modes of travel has changed over time. Overall, it can be seen that people have used diffrent modes of transport to travel 4740 miles in 2001 which increased to 6475 in 2006.

The most preferred mode of travel for people in Netherlands can be considered to be cars whereby they travelled 3199 miles in 2001. It increased to 4806 in 2006 which is the biggest jump compared to all other modes. Trains have been used by people to travel 289 miles which increased to 366 miles from 2001 to 2006 while long-distance busses were used for travel from 54 miles to 124 miles over the same period. Taxis travelled a clean 13 miles in 2001 which was increased to 42 miles while other modes of travel increased from 450 to 585 miles from 2001 to 2006. The only time a decrease in the travel mode could be identified for walking and bicycle. While in 2001 255 miles were travelled by walking and 51 miles for bicycles, in 2006, it decreased to 234 and 41 miles respective. Overall, it can be stated that cars is the most used and preferred mode of travel for the people in Netherlands and walking and cycling is the least preferred ones.

The given chart of table provides an illustration of data about the average miles that people in Netherlands using different modes of transport. The data provides a comparative analysis between the changes taking place in the preference of the people to travel in 2001 and 2006 and the change in the average miles travelled by those modes of transport.

It can be seen from the table that cars have been used for atravlleing the most in 2001 as well as in 2006 given the changes in their miles of travel. Cars travelled for an average miles of 3199 which saw a rise in its demand and travel to 4806 miles from 2001 to 2006. Trains have travelled through people in 2001 for 289 miles which increased to 366 miles in 2006. On the other hand, long-distance buses travelled for 54 miles in 2001 and 124 in 2006 which is a huge rise. Taxis over the same period have travelled for 13 miles in the 2001 period which rose to 41 miles for the people. Other modes of transport also exist which were used by people for 450 miles in 2001 and in 2006, it rose to 585 miles. However, the modes of travel has also experienced decline in terms of walking amd bicycles from 255 miles yo 234 miles and 51 miles to 41 miles respectively in the same period. Overall, it can be stated that cars is the most used and preferred mode of travel for the people in Netherlands and walking and cycling is the least preferred ones. It can be seen total average miles travelled by people using diffrent modes of transport have increased from 4740 miles in 2001 to 6475 in 2006.
