Topic:The bar chart below depicts the percentage participation of men in senior development in 3 companies namely IBM, Microsoft, and Apple between 1980 and 2000 years. Summarize the information and report its main features and compare wherever relevant.
Band 6 Answer
The bar chart depicts the percentage of men in senior development positions in 3 companies namely IBM, Microsoft, and Apple from 1980 to 2010. There were more men at senior positions in Apple compared to Microsoft and IBM. In 1980, men at Apple were 15%. However, it dropped to 13% within a gap of 5 years.
There was a rise of 1% only after 5 years. When compared with 1990, men held more top jobs in 1995. There was a decrease of 19% in 2000 while in 2010, there was an increase of 25% of men in senior positions. Out of all the companies, IBM men occupied senior positions from 1980 to 1985 without any change in the status quo. By 1995, the number of men in senior positions doubled to 26%. Again, there was an increase of 6% in the share of senior men in 5 years. In the year 2010, men in senior development positions increased to 63%, which is the highest among the companies. The growth rate of men occupying senior positions at Microsoft was relatively slow. In 1980, the percentage of men was only 8%, after which it increased every by 2% until 2000. After 2000, there was a dramatic increase in men in senior positions to 45%. The only time when men in senior development positions of Microsoft topped other companies were in 2010.
Band 7 Answer
The bar chart gives a comparison of the number of men in senior development positions in 2 major companies namely IBM, Apple, and Microsoft between the years 1980 and 2010. Out of the three companies, Apple bagged the largest percentage of senior development employees. However, with time, it was replaced by IBM as the largest percentage of senior development employees.
In the year 1980 Apple, Microsoft, and IBM had a share of 15%, 8%, and 3% senior male developers respectively. Within 10 years, the differences in percentage became almost similar. However, after 5 years in the year 1995, IBM surpassed the other two companies and increased its share of men in senior positions till the year 2010. The percentages of men in senior positions in 2010 at IBM, Apple, and Microsoft were at 60%, 25%, and 45% respectively. Overall, though there was an increase in number of men in senior development positions in all 3 companies, IBM’s and Microsoft’s share is comparatively more than Apple. It can be identified that there was an increase of 63% in the position of senior development for male employees in 2010. Microsoft was able to top in ensuring that men reached the position of senior development was in 2010.
Band 8 Answer
The above bar graph depicts te percentage of men acquiring the position of senior development in three multinational companies from 1980 to 2010. These companies include the IBM, Microsoft and Apple. From the entire bar graph, it can be stated that in comparison to all the three companies, Apple had more men at senior development positions that the other two. The graph further depicts from the start that in 1980, there were 15% men in the senior development positions which decreased to 13% in 1985 and rose only by 1% after 5 years of gap.
When compared with the yra if 1990, in 1995 men held much higher positions in their jobs which further saw a decrease of 19% in 2000. However, in 2010, the rise of the men in senior positions can be seen to have changed drastically when there was a 25% increase in the positions held by them. Men employed in IBM held senior positions between 1980-85 without any change. In contrast to 1995, IBM saw an increase in the number of men as seniors with a sharp 26% increase. This fugure further increased at a massive level for IBM when in 2010, it was able to have 63% of men in the senior development positions. In comparison, Apple was at the top in 1980 with 15% men at senior level which decreased to 13% in 1990 and increased only at 26% in 2010. The growth of Microsoft at every 5 years was quite slow in terms of men holding senior positions. However, in 2010 it increased the position of men to 45% direct from 8% in 1980 which is a major change in three decades.
