IELTS Writing Task 2 Topic

Topic: It is suggested that everyone wants to have a car, a television and a fridge. Do disadvantages of this development for society outweigh advantages?

Sample Answer:

Having a car, a TV, a mobile or a fridge are some of the basic essentials of a good lifestyle in the present world. This has become uncontrollable as we strive to make our life easier. The gadgets, automobiles and machines are used for our benefit and to make life effortless. These might be needy but I believe that on a long-term view these are outweighed by the disadvantages which are intractable .

On one hand, the growing consumption of cars, televisions and fridges has several benefits. They make life easier. The daily increasing out of hand sales of cars and household equipment paves way for more jobs and wealth being created for society. One more advantage is that people have a higher standard of living than before. Traveling on the road is no longer tedious. You can sit in a car, listen to music and enjoy the comfort of air conditioning. People watch television to relax or to gain knowledge from the comfort of their home, and fridges help them preserve food, keep their drinks cold in summer etc.

On the other hand, I believe that the above benefits are outweighed by potential problems or disadvantages faced by mankind. The use of cars and other automobiles are held responsible for intractable air pollution. Exhaust emitted from automobiles damages the air quality and continuously affects the health of those who consume the air. As an example, in many big cities in the world, citizens are suffering from chronic respiratory problems due to the poor air quality. This happens due to the polluted air around them. Using fridges and televisions requires electricity and hence, more electricity needs to be generated. The more we use them, the demand increases. This uncontrollable demand causes an effect on the environment. The growing demand of fuel will end one day and will hamper the way we deal with life.

If I look at the long-term perspective, I would agree that the drawbacks of this trend outweigh the advantages.

Topic: Pollution and its consequences:

Sample Answer:

Most of the countries in the world are battling with intractable pollution and its after effects. The government is taking strict actions to control pollution, the efforts seem to be in no-vain. Common people should be much more aware of the uncontrollable pollution that the world is facing.

The whole country is affected by water, air, and noise pollution. If we look at the root cause of the out of control pollution levels, it would be the modernization of the city and the lifestyle that we follow. With a growing population and modern lifestyle, the number of vehicles on roads is increasing, leading to increased levels of air pollution. The vehicles emit gasses that are contaminating the air around us. With more number of vehicles, the noise pollution level is also escalating to a point where it gets out of hand to control. Noise pollution might cause issues like - Increased stress levels, irritability, hearing impairment and many other. Several factories in the city dump waste into rivers nearby polluting its water. This untreated waste further hampers aquatic life. Pollution is also leading to health issues such as skin cancer, lung cancer, respiratory problems, and so on. It is time for the common people to be aware of the pollution that is created due to their lifestyle. We should minimize the use of vehicles, tools or daily life instruments. It is the only way to stop the intractable pollution. If not stopped at the right time, this will affect and destroy mother Earth and will also create an impact on the lifestyle for generations ahead.
