Writing Task 2 Topic:

Topic: People should follow the customs and traditions when people start to live in a new country. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Sample Essay:

Many people argue that if a foreigner comes to stay in a new country, he/ she should adapt to the local customs and traditions. This topic is debatable and has multiple opinions from different groups of people.

Newcomers will certainly face difficulties to discern and grasp the norms, culture and way of life. However, it will be easier with time. Firstly, it will become almost impossible for them to distinguish between people and blend with the environment. Secondly, recent immigrants might fall foul of the law if they are unable to behold the local authorities. There are also many benefits when foreigners try to adopt the customs and traditions of the new country of residence. Local people will be more welcoming when they feel that the newcomers are showing respect for the local way of life. They will not distinguish between local people and foreigners. The establishment of closer links with the host community might lead to greater integration and mutual understanding. The richness of the experience which newcomers will gain is immense. Enjoying aspects of local customs and traditions, will enable them to participate in community life and avoid social isolation. During festivals, they will feel like they ‘belong’ in this society. They will also feel at home. I do agree that one needs to understand the way of life of the surroundings and adjust or learn the same. This will bring more peace and satisfaction in day to day life.

Topic: Describe a fair that you have recently visited.

Sample Answer:

I recently visited my hometown which is a small village located in the foothills of the Himalayas. To my surprise, there was a fair organized by the tribals in the locality. It was to display and sell the handicrafts made by them. At first, I was unable to discern what it was from a distance. When I came near the venue, I understood that it was the fair that is organized every year. The committee does not distinguish between people and everyone from around the city visits the fair. I also went there with my friends and family. It was a great environment and there were multiple shops for handmade jewelry and home decors. I was unable to decide and understand which shop to visit. However, I noticed a tagline of a shop which said, “From our home to Yours”. I loved it and was able to catch the meaning. I decided to visit the shop and purchase some items for my room decoration. First few minutes, I was just beholding the items as I was mesmerized by the collection. I distinguished a few items and decided to purchase them. The price was very reasonable as all the items were handmade and straight from the homes of the people. We also enjoyed street food and snacks at the fair. It was nice and a chilly evening which went very well.
