Attribute

Meaning: To say something is caused by something or someone else
Synonyms: assign, ascribe, credit, allocate, impute

Sentence 1: He attributed his success to his hard work and familial support.
Sentence 2: The potholes on the road are attributed to the corruption in the country.
Sentence 3: His doctor attributes his poor health to his poor eating habits.
Sentence 4: The poem is attributed to TS Eliot but some scholars doubt it.

Sample Answer:

I have always been a hard-working person and I attribute all my success to the same. I want to share about the experience of receiving a prize. The moment was really special for me as I have been looking forward to it. It was the “Academic achiever award” for the 2013-2016 batch which meant the students had to be selected based on their performance in the annual exams of every year. I was really surprised when my name was nominated by the HOD for the award. To confirm, I met my professor and asked if the news was true and she nodded and ascribed it to my continuous hard work and perseverance. On the day of the event, I was called on the stage. I was extremely overwhelmed. I received the memento and cash as well. I had to also talk about how I maintained a CGPA of 9.5 throughout. I credit the hard work to my professors who believed in me and always provided positive feedback. They were supportive of me throughout the three years. I didn’t even know that if I kept working persistently and maintained a high CGPA, I would be applauded with a token of appreciation. This would not only motivate me but add to my CV as well. Throughout the three years, I had been assigned projects of different kinds, some based on working models, some on research and analysis, some on case studies. The curriculum was vast and maintaining a reputable CGPA was a big deal for me. I impute it to my will and dedication to never give up. Even till now, when I look back at the amount of diligence, it makes me pleased and motivates me to work hard towards my goal. As it is said in Bhagwad Gita to keep working hard and not worry about the results, I practice the same and somehow results come out positive too.

I have always been a nature lover. The primary reason why I loved being in the lap of nature attributes to my time spent in Chandigarh. There were many gardens maintained by the PUDA( Punjab Urban Development Authority) but one garden which was close to my house was the Rose Garden. The beauty of the garden was mesmerising and it especially stood out in the spring season which was ascribed to the temperature and weather the spring season offered. Most of the flowers would blood in hues of different shades and the garden would look like a wreath ready to be worn by some Goddess. I loved visiting that garden for that view. I would sit for hours and simply watch all the flowers, plants and birds hovering around the branches of the trees. The beauty of the garden can be credited to the regular maintenance of PUDA who would consistently employ workers to look after the garden. Over time, it has become a public attraction and the more people started visiting the garden, the less I started spending time in my favourite natural space. The name of the garden imputes to Dr Zakir Hussain. It is spread over 30 acres of land and is one of the largest gardens of the city. It has plants of different species and over 50,000 rose plants. Some plants are allocated medicinal values as well. I still visit the garden whenever I get a chance to stay in Chandigarh. The moment I step into that garden, a sense of nostalgia takes over and I walk in the labyrinthine passage of childhood. These memories remind me how time flies by and how important it is to live in the present and cherish it.
