Topic: Open-ended movies are the latest fad. To what extent do you agree?

Sample Answer:

Gone are those days when the end really meant the end. The newer movies are more experimental and one of the key features that these movies possess is the ambiguity at the end. Sometimes the climax gets so nebulous that the audience is left pondering over it for days. The parts of the movies don’t even fit well and the readers are puzzled trying hard to interpret the meaning. The use of obscurity is intriguing both for the filmmakers as well the audience. One of the finest examples of such a vague ending can be found in the movie Piku where the central character is playing badminton with Rana and he asks if she could live all alone by herself now to which Piku responds that her father had prepared her for this. The audience is left wondering whether Piku will stay single or the laughter and giggle that she shared with Rana will culminate into a relationship. It is in doubt that the audience seeks pleasure and comes up with their interpretations. Audiences like participating equally in the movies as much as the cast and the team of any movie. Open-ended movies offer that opportunity and hence are the latest fad.

Topic: Describe a situation where you had an awkward encounter with a stranger.

Sample Answer:

I enjoy talking to strangers as they give me a new perspective on life and situations. Since I have been into travelling a lot, I encounter many people who are from different nationalities and cultures. I remember one encounter with an extremely weird stranger. It was when I was travelling in the Shanghai metro and after deboarding, I lost my way. I had to ask someone for the way. I saw a gentleman standing on the platform waiting for his metro. I asked him if could help me with the directions to which he responded in a language that I could vaguely decipher. I tried to converse with him by making gestures. He obscurely repeated the same words. I was clueless as to what he was speaking but from his expressions, it looked like he was pissed at me. I felt awkward when I turned around and saw all eyeballs gazing at me. I was doubtful whether to seek others help in the matter. As I was leaving, the stranger made an ambiguous gesture by his hand but this time with a smile. I went close to him and he spoke in English. I was taken aback as if he knew the language, why did he not respond in the same language before to which he responded that he was just playing a prank. Honestly, I did not find it funny and left the station after getting the direction from a nice old lady who wasn’t pretending to be nebulous as that man. I found the whole encounter extremely bizarre and I still think about it often.
