Obdurate

Meaning: stubbornly refusing to change one's opinion or course of action.
Synonyms: Obstinate, wilful, strong-willed, adamant, persistent, perverse, recalcitrant, headstrong, stubborn as a mule.

Sample Answer:

There are several successful business people in my country that are striving and leading the country to economic stability. One such business person that I utterly admire and revere is the CEO and founder of e-commerce chain Nykaa. Today Nykaa has over 45 stores across the country with more than 1500 genuine beauty and wellness brands. It emerged as India’s biggest omnichannel beauty destination satisfying more than a million customers. We are to thank the headstrong Mrs Falguni Nayar for its success and quick emergence.

There is still a stigma in India where some societies believe that women are only suited for household chores. Breaking this stigma, Falguni Nayar has made Nykaa to reach its pinnacle of success with her strong-willed attitude. Besides, being from a business background and herself working as an investment banker for about 18 years, she one day decided to start a business of her own. She resigned from her job in 2012 and launched this e-commerce beauty retailer with two million dollars. By 2019 the company had made dould the sales and received a whopping profit of 180 million dollars.

I admire her the most as after working for almost 18 years helping other businessmen, she stuck to her dream and finally conquered it. There are many businesses that surface, some fail while some succeed. The only thing that stands between them is persistence and obduration. I admire her for her hardwork and constant persistence to achieve something that she really believed in.

Topic: Write about a person that you dislike and why?

Sample Answer:

We meet different types of people during the course of our lives. It is human nature to have disagreements with one another at some point or the other, which leads to us sometimes dislike a person. One such person that I dislike is a colleague of mine. We have had a few disagreements due to his obstinate attitude towards working women.

We are living in the 21st century and I am appalled to see when someone dismisses working women who prioritize their careers. This colleague of mine is older to me, but his sheer disregard for working women annoys me. We have had several disagreements in the past wherein he talked about how women should only be doing household chores and not think about their careers much.

I have cited him with numerous examples of how women are balancing their careers as well as their home life. My mother in fact is a working woman but has managed to strike a balance between her professional and private life. However,his obdurancy to the matter is unshakable which has made me dislike him. In an era of women empowerment I was taken aback by his such atrocious and small-minded opinions.
