One of the most famous historical rulers is from the Delhi Sultanate named, Ala-uddin-Khilji. He is known as the most despotic ruler in the history of Delhi Sultanate who ruled over the northern regions in India for fifteen years. His despotism is known far and wide in the world considering he assassinated his own father-in-law to come to power and become the monarch in Delhi. His rule throughout the period was entirely relentless whereby he was able to take under his rule various regions which he captured and subdued. During the time of Delhi Sultanate another autocratic rule that tried to enforce its absolute power on India was that of the Mongols. From 1303 to 1306, Khilji was able to keep a track of all the Mongolian advances in the northwest and with tranquility was able to subdue the northwestern part of India under his rule. Khilji’s rule is regarded as a time when the society was in a state of monarchical rule with a ruler who was completely tyrant and endured his absolute power with no mercy. Various rebellions were quelled against him which he won with utmost supremacy. Khilji’s rule and power is a time which can be thought of as a dystopian society where everyone lived under tyranny of the monarch. His despotism bore heights especially on the Hindu rulers in India who had to bear excessive taxation on everything as part of his tyrannical rule. Ala-uddin-Khilji can be considered as an autocratic ruler who ensured that his decisions were absolute and took no mercy against those who opposed him. His rule is marked in the history of India as one of the most dreadful times when the society especially for the Hindus were in misery. His absolute power and autocracy is considered to be dystopian for the current society where having tyrannical leaders or government can be harmful for social growth and development. Khilji’s autocracy was further succeeded by four generations after which the dynasty came to an end.

Totalitarian government is the form of government where people are ruled by a head of the state or political party that does not allow the other political parties to influence their power. A totalitarian government implies that a political party has absolute power over the state and curbs and restricts people’s private and public life on a major scale. A totalitarian government is mainly headed by monarchs, dictators and autocrats who constantly restrict people’s lives and rights through strict control and regulations. The autocracy prevails in the society where even the mass media has no autonomy and is controlled by the state of power. Considering that the totalitarian regime is entirely eliminated in the 21st century, it may be identified that with growing disputes in social and political aspects and expanding divide between rich and poor, a dystopian society is expected by many. Totalitarian regimes took greater heights during World War I when the countries of Germany, Soviet Union, Italy where the governments took absolute power on the states. Although monarchy as a state of governance can be considered to have been eliminated, the totalitarian regime also made people live in a condition of injustice and suffering. Although totalitarian government is different from dictatorship and despotism considering that all political institutions are supplanted within the state, it may be identified that absolute power can be considered to be one of the major features of a totalitarian government. In the current world, the totalitarian regime is entirely dealing with ideologies where absolute power is enabled on the society.
