Topic: Describe how you felt when you lost your pet.

Sample Answer:

I was very young when on my fifth birthday my father surprised me with my birthday gift. I was extremely excited about the gift as he told me in advance that I would love my birthday present. On the day of my birthday, my father sneaked in a cardboard box and it had the cutest puppy I had ever seen. I was so happy to receive that gift. I immediately became attached to my pet dog. My father would often say that I must not be so fond of that living being as it might end up hurting me when the lifespan of the dog is completed. I didn’t heed his advice and continued my warm and affectionate relationship with the dog. However, after a year, it contracted a disease and started becoming sick. I felt extremely sad looking at the plight of the little dog. Even after taking it to several vets, there was no improvement in its health. That was the moment I decided to decathect from it as I knew I wouldn’t be able to handle the loss if I didn't. Even the process of detaching was not easy and for a child who was just a six-year-old then, it was extremely difficult. I tried to make peace with reality and tried to consciously withdraw my emotional attachment hoping that maybe I would meet my pet in this life again if it reincarnates into a new life form. It was heartbreaking to see it dying in such pain. I felt helpless and remorseful but I had no choice. When it left us, I consoled myself thinking at least it was finally out of the misery.

Topic: Write about the futility of being attached to material things.

Sample Answer:

In modern times, one of the parameters of belonging to a high class has become the possession of material things. While living comfortably should be preferred, most people aspire to build a luxurious life for themselves. To do that people start collecting materials like cars, houses, furniture more than what is even required. What people fail to realise is that detaching from material possessions is needed as they do not truly add value to our life. Some people become attached to objects as they find maintaining a real-time relationship is difficult in today’s world. Establishing relationships with objects is a safer option as this reduces their chances of emotional vulnerability. What is the need of the hour is that people must realise that gathering materials or becoming attached to them do not lead to peace and happiness. We must decathect from such acts. We must always strive to live a simple life that does not consume more resources as we already know that the Earth is struggling due to overconsumption of resources. Accumulating more leads to the exploitation of resources. Hence, we must withdraw from keeping more than what is needed. We require cutting off the thought of wanting to be more materialistic as in the end how we are as humans matter more than how much we own.
