Topic: Describe one of the striking features of your house.

Sample Answer:

My house is built in the countryside. This means that it is away from the hustle of the city. I have heard people living in cities complaining about how noisy it gets and therefore results in frustration. One of the most admirable features present in my house is the rainwater harvesting system. It is built in the outhouse’s exit where it is connected to a rain barrel. The water debouches from the house to a filtration system which has granules that help in cleaning the collected water from the roofs. The filtered water can then be taken out from the barrel and used for all non-potable purposes. Although the water appears clean on the surface yet it is not advised to use it for drinking and so we keep its usage limited to watering the plants in the garden. The purpose of installing a rainwater harvesting system in the house was to reuse water. Our Earth is already witnessing a dearth of fresh water. It thus becomes important to develop an environmental consciousness amongst us. The system that my house has come out to be extremely easy and many neighbours also have tried installing the same in their houses. It has cut down our water wastage and has benefitted the garden plants too. In my opinion, everyone must try their hands on this simplistic procedure and do their bit to conserve water.

Topic: Write about the importance of conserving water.

Sample Answer:

Water is one determining factor that has enabled human life to flourish. Without it, the possibility of life remains unforeseeable. However, the percentage of freshwater is declining every year. According to reports published by NASA, the freshwater percentage is being drained faster than it is replenished. This not only means the scarcity of potable water is less but also there is a threat to the lives of aquatic species. Many industries release chemical waste directly in the rivers which eventually debouch into oceans. The marine life surviving in the ocean gets impacted by those chemicals and often end up dying. Marine dumping which is throwing garbage into the ocean is another cause of water pollution. The freshwater also gets affected by the fertilisers and pesticides that are used by farmers in their fields. To conserve water, we must fit a rainwater harvesting system in our houses as it collects the rainwater which can then be utilised from the exit of the barrel in which it is gathered. Another method could be by redistributing the water through the use of canals, pipes and irrigation systems. The water from them can be discharged to areas that are struck by a drought or less rainfall. Deforestation can help in bringing more rain which can come out handy in fighting the battle of water loss. Utilising modern irrigation methods like drip irrigation that distribute water from smaller to larger areas can be opted to conserve water. We must remember that we just have one planet that supports human life and that is possible due to the presence of water. Hence, we must start practising water conservation techniques in our everyday life.
