Meaning: warm or scold someone firmly, advise someone earnestly

Sentence 1: His father admonished him for his bad and careless behavior.

Sample Answer:

From my grandmother to my uncle’s children we all live together as a joint family. I love living in a joint family and one of the intriguing members of my family is my grandmother. I find her intriguing as she is loving at one point while starts berating at other times. My grandmother is almost 90 years old, she is a bit hard of hearing, and is extremely affectionate. However, I am appalled why she sometimes starts admonishing everyone of us. When I was a child I remember my grandmother to be so affectionate, always telling me mythological stories that I loved. She even used to cook my favorite dishes. I loved spending time with my grandmother. My grandmother was a classical dancer. She was graceful, beautiful, jovial and a calm person. As she aged she somewhat had a change in her personality. I once found her admonishing a fruit seller for he had sold stale fruits to my grandmother. The fruit seller constantly apologized but she didn’t seem to budge. I talked to my father about her behavior for which he said that she is now old and sometimes old people have a change in their personality. He advised me to not be affected by her behavior and instead embrace the change she was going through. It was initially difficult for me to accept her chastity, but I later understood what my father had said. Even though she is now a completely different person, I still revere and love my grandmother a lot.

Topic: Discuss a positive change which has affected your life and how it affected you.

Sample Answer

It is rightly said that change is inevitable. Be it positive or negative there are changes that we need to embrace fully. Positive changes are beneficial for us, whereas negative changes are to be worked upon. One of the positive changes that I went through was when I had control over my anger and self criticism. I was so angry at all times that I rebuked every person around me. My family, friends often criticized me for this behavior. It was infuriating to see the people around me affected by my behavior. I didn’t want to hurt anyone with the harsh words that I spilled out in my anger. I was so frustrated with my behavior that I scolded myself when alone. I finally decided to address this issue and went to a therapist. I explained to her everything that I was going through. I told her how I was triggered by even the slightest of things, admonished everyone around me and often felt critical about myself. Being in my late 20’s it was not the kind of behavior anyone would expect of me. After thoroughly analyzing my situation, after every session my therapist gave me a few exercises. These were to understand my triggers, when I most felt self critical, and every time I encountered a trigger to start taking deep breaths. Surprisingly, after a few sessions I felt better about myself. I thoroughly started accepting the person I had become and started working on myself. There were times when I relapsed, but I worked through it as I didn’t like the person that I had become. It was the most significant and positive change in myself that shaped me to become the person I am today. I no longer feel the need to rebuke anyone, am calm and have a positive outlook towards life.
