Topic: Shoes IELTS Speaking Part 1

Here are a few IELTS speaking topic shoe questions for preparations:

Question 1: Do you like shoes?

Answer: I love shoes of different styles. I believe that shoes convey a lot about the status and mindset of a person. So, I like my shoes to be on point. I have various shoes since I like to collect and increase my collection of shoes. Since my childhood, I have been captivated by shoes. My mother says I was often caught playing around wearing my parents’ shoes.

Vocabulary:

  • On point – attractive and stylish
  • Captivated – attracted

Question 2: How frequently do you buy shoes?

Answer: I love collecting shoes though I am not a frequent shopper. I shop occasionally, maybe once in six months. Nevertheless, whenever I do, I make sure to invest in a good pair of shoes. Sometimes I even end up buying two pairs of shoes, if I find them fashionable and within budget.

Vocabulary:

  • Occasionally- not often
  • end up buying- buy unexpectedly

Question 3: Do you like wearing comfortable shoes or good-looking ones?

Answer: I like wearing shoes that are comfortable as well as good-looking. Appearance is the first thing I look for when I am buying shoes. I keep an eye on the color, design, details, and if it will complement my outfits. However, comfort is more important to me. I feel that one cannot carry oneself properly if he or she is not comfortable in their shoes. I usually go for branded companies that ensure comfort with attractive looks altogether. Crocs, for example, are comfortable yet unattractive. I do not like such pairs.

Vocabulary:

  • keep an eye on it- look carefully so that it is satisfactory

Question 4: What is your favorite type of shoes?

Answer: Flats are my favorite. They are versatile and go with anything. I can pair them with any outfit and still look classy. They can be both comfortable and glamorous. I mostly have flats in my collection. However, at parties or any event, I prefer to wear my heels. They work well with glamorous outfits.

Vocabulary:

  • Versatile- having different uses

Question 5: Why do some people have too many shoes?

Answer: Well, there could be various reasons. Some people tend to buy shoes whenever they find them on sale. They get swayed off and make the whimsical decision of buying whatever pair they find cheap. Another group of people buys them maybe because they are fond of collecting shoes. Another group includes those who keep their old pairs and keep on buying new ones. Thus shoes stack up in their houses.

Vocabulary:

  • Whimsical- not seriously thought of

Question 6: Have you ever bought shoes online?

Answer: I have never purchased shoes online. I am not in favor of buying shoes without the feel of it. My sister had got one for herself which was neither of good quality nor a good fit for her. Since that incident, I refrain from buying things online without thorough research. I have rarely seen people sharing good feedback about their shoes purchased online. So, I prefer buying shoes after trying them on.

Vocabulary:

  • Refrain- to stop from doing something

Question 7: Are people willing to buy expensive shoes?

Answer: Yes, I definitely would love to buy expensive shoes. I have also seen people buy very expensive shoes. Wealthy people often prefer buying expensive shoes. Most people prefer possessing better quality shoes than cheap quality ones even if they are a little pricey.

Vocabulary:

  • Pricey – expensive or high priced
