The IELTS Exam is a test for the candidates to verify their knowledge of the English language. The IELTS Exam checks the ability of the students via 4 sections:

The first part is the listening test where candidates will be provided audio clips of 4 different conversations or monologues. They need to fill the IELTS listening answer sheet after going through the audio and the questions related to it. Candidates can also follow the IELTS exam pattern to prepare effectively for the IELTS test.

IELTS Listening test Details

There will be 4 audio clips that the candidates need to listen to. The clip will be played only once. Each audio will have 10 questions related to the clip. There will be a total of 40 questions that the students need to answer in the IELTS listening answer sheet. This is to test if the candidate can understand and grasp information and follow them while answering the questions. The recordings will be of native English speakers.

The IELTS listening Audio will last for 30 minutes. The candidates need to listen to the audio and write the answers in this 30 minutes of time. After this, an extra time of 10 minutes will be provided to transfer the answers to the IELTS listening sheet. This is one of the easiest sections to increase the IELTS band score.

Sections of Answer Sheet

The first and the foremost thing that candidates should keep in mind is that they need to use a pencil to fill the IELTS Listening Answer Sheet. There are multiple IELTS test Centers all over the country. The format for all the test centers are the same. The IELTS listening answer sheet has multiple sections which the candidates need to fill with precision. Students can also opt for IELTS Computer based test. The IELTS listening answer sheet will be the same for Online test takers. The sections of the IELTS listening sheet are:

IELTS Center Number 

The first thing that the candidate needs to fill in is the center number. This might include only numbers or numbers and letters. After writing this, the examiner might ask the candidate to write the city name next to it.
For example – MD855 Madrid ( MD855 is the center number code, while Madrid is the city).

Name, Number and Date 

Next the candidate needs to write their name in Capital Alphabets. After the name, candidates will be given the candidate number which will be given at the test center.
The candidate then will have to write the IELTS Exam date – with the date, month and year, by shading the given number boxes.
For example - Date of Exam is 21st April, 2022. The candidate needs to shade the boxes 2 and 1 for the date, 4 for the month(April) and 2, 0, 2, 2 for the year.

Listening Answers Column 

There will be 2 columns in the IELTS Listening Answer sheet. The number will start from 1 and end at 40. Next to each number, there will be space to write the answer.Few points that candidates should remember while filling the IELTS Answer sheet are:

  • The answers should be written with dark and sharpened pencil
  • Start from extreme left and not from the center of the box
  • Section “Marker use only” should be avoided as it is for the examiner
  • Four boxes below the answer columns should be avoided

Instructions and Key Points during Exam 

There are few instructions given to the candidates in the IELTS test center. Students must follow the instructions and the key points to clear the IELTS Eligibility score. The instructions provided by the examiner at the test center must be strictly followed. Students can also follow the key points and the IELTS listening tips to score the maximum score.

Instructions for IELTS candidates 

  • Not to open the question paper until told by the examiner.
  • Full name in Capital letters should be written
  • Candidates should write Application number at the top of the page.
  • Write your answers on the question paper while you’re listening.
  • Once the audio ends, students will have 10 minutes to transfer the answers onto the separate answer sheet.

Key Points for IELTS Listening Test 

  • Students must read the instructions on the paper.
  • Candidates must use a pencil while writing the answers
  • The answer on the Listening question paper must be written while the recording is going on
  • The recording will be played only once
  • After the recording is over, candidates will be allowed 10 minutes to shift the answer in the answer sheet.
  • These 10 minutes must be used to check the spelling of your answers.
  • Attempt all the questions
  • Do not panic if any answer is missed.
