Band 8 IELTS Essay

Freedom of speech means everyone has a right to express his/her thought and opinions without getting scared of anyone or any group. It is an important basic human right in all free societies. Freedom of speech is very much essential in decision-making from parliament to the community level. When this basic human right is threatened, people become very emotional and they tend to do anything to protect it. This often leads to social unrest and will bring negative effects on the economy. To upgrade society and citizens, freedom of speech is very important.

In the past, because of peremptory domination, caste discrimination, religious beliefs, people were not allowed to express their thoughts freely. But nowadays, these rights need to be improved for everyone. Freedom of speech should not be abandon because of the following reasons – Firstly, freedom of speech is a pillar of free societies itself because it has made another kind of freedom possible.

Secondly, free societies have laws to protect people from getting harmed by saying what they feel. Freedom of speech is one of the most important factors in almost all levels of our society. There are many benefits from freedom of speech which can be put into two aspects. One is for a nation and the other is for all individuals living in a society. For a government, it is most important as a government that does not know the people feel and think - which is a dangerous position. Freedom of speech gives a sense of attachment to the country. People feel more connected if they have to say in the decisions of the country. Allowing people to speak their minds helps often in reaching better solutions. The government has laws to ensure freedom of speech but it needs to be checked if the law is maintained or violated. In a free society, legislation is examined by those who agree and those who are opposed. No political action is possible without free speech. Elections would have no meaning without free speech. Only because of free speech, policies of contestants have become known to the public and become responsive to public opinion. Without this freedom of speech, it is worthless to expect political freedom or consequently economic freedom.

In the conclusion, it can be said that freedom of speech marks a free society. The importance of freedom of speech is a basic and valuable characteristic of a free society and it cannot be underestimated. Lastly, it can be said that citizens should have the freedom to speak in favor of or against anyone to maintain unity which indicates a healthy society.

Band 7 IELTS Essay

There is no doubt that speaking, which is the most prevalent method of expression for human beings, is a necessity for them to convey their needs. So in my view, in order for a society to be referred to as "free," the freedom of speech must be of utmost importance.

Many advantages of speech freedom can be divided into two categories. The initial one is for a country. The press or an individual citizen can expose the misconduct of one or more specific authorities thanks to freedom of speech, provided that it is legal to do so. To ensure the authority's transparency, this is an opportunity for careful inquiry. Corruption may therefore be impeded. A further result is that the country attracts more foreign and domestic investors, which significantly accelerates economic growth. Due to the freedom of speech, the press, or more generally, the media, can also help voters during elections. In addition to their campaigns, information from the media can help the public choose the best candidate to govern the nation by giving them a fuller picture of the nominees. Each individual who lives in a society has its own aspect. Every citizen has the freedom to freely express what they feel is true and beneficial for their life and their community. It indicates that individuals are free to voice their opinions when they see anything that is improper, against the law, or adversely affects their life.

A group of residents, for instance, could openly protest an unfair tax payment policy by using the media or staging a demonstration. This may put pressure on the administration to take their request into account and come up with a solution. People will feel that their urge for self-expression is satisfied if their voice is valued. With people who have a high feeling of wellbeing, the community thus becomes worthwhile to live in.

In a nutshell, once accepted and protected by the law, freedom of speech is crucial for a stable society since it serves to improve the standard of the government and shield citizens from injustice. It ought to be promoted more extensively as a result.

Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

In order to improve oneself and society, one must have the freedom of speech. For development to begin, for people to come together, for networking to begin, and for missions like the mission of change or the mission of independence to advance, freedom is a crucial factor.

Anyone, whether they are a 2-year-old child or a 60-year-old man, ought to be able to talk freely. People are more willing to speak up, make choices, and take action when they have this courage. Politicians, for instance, sometimes talk in front of large crowds about their goals and pledges for the development of the nation. The audience patiently listens to them, considers their arguments, and then votes for them to win, giving him the opportunity to fulfil his promises and obligations.

Freedom is also a lovely society's smell. It energises you to accomplish a specific objective and makes you more outgoing. However, today, only politicians are granted this privilege. In the event that the opposing party is more powerful than them, those who are not politicians and who speak the truth about someone risk being slaughtered or murdered. It also restricts one's ability to make decisions and makes one pause a hundred times before speaking in front of others. Consequently, we end ourselves as slaves in our own nation.

As a result, I firmly believe that every citizen should be able to freely express their opinions about anyone. Dealing with the issues while remaining silent can lead to tragedy and leave us in a pickle. Instead of giving up on the issues, we must band together and collaborate. The same is true when the sun is shining.
