Time Spent on YouTube IELTS Writing Task 1 is an academic task. The IELTS academic writing task 1 deals with info-graphic questions. The table illustration reveals that there are mainly 10 different types of advertisements on YouTube. Among all the advertisements, the public service advertisement has the maximum duration which is approximately 1.7 minutes long. Business and finance, entertainment and lifestyle related advertisements have an average of half a minute duration. On the other hand the technology advertisements have slightly more length, roughly around 40 seconds. This is contrary, how travel retail consumer electronics and clothing and pharmaceutical advertisements are somewhere 20 to 30 seconds duration. The average duration of all types of advertisements shown on YouTube is exactly 38.1 seconds. It can be said that YouTube users in generall and overall watch the advertisements for an approximate time of 20 seconds. This implies that they watch it half the total length of the advertisement. People watch more than 28 seconds of public service ads, which is higher than any other advertisements. The average duration of actual length of advertisement and duration people watch them is lower.

It can be said that the ratio, people watch more portions of entertainment and news, travel, retail and consumer electronics. YouTube advertisements while they can skip clothing, technology and business and add finance advertisements.

Band 7 Answer 

The above tabel is about the list of different types of advertisements that are shown on the YouTube and clearly detailed evaluation regarding the duration of the ads and the duration of people watching the ads in secnds. It also shows the viewers who spend time watching these advertisements. The average length of any advertisement varies from 14.6 seconds for closings and 45.8 seconds for public services. The advertisement videos are mostly related to travel, finance, and entertainment that tend to last longer than other advertisements. For instance, automotive at what it means and entertainment advertisements are usually played for 27.2 and 27.8 seconds respectively. On the other side, the length of the low price of products is being advertised. Few low-priced products such as clothing, consumer electronics, and medicines have shorter advertisement lengths. The consumer electronics advertisement, for instance, takes place for around 15.3 seconds.

Advertisements for more expensive products or services are usually made longer to be watched. But the advertisements that are less expensive or have a less expensive item are usually shorter in duration. Viewers can see an advertisement on average more than 50%. The advertisement or mostly for travel, automotive and financial services. It is the opposite, how it was 10 to watch less public service and cheaper goods. For example medicine, clothes and electronics have fewer views in advertisements. For example, viewers tend to spend 5 to 6 seconds watching a pharmaceutical advertisement that is only 16.3 seconds long.

Lastly to conclude, the length of the advertisement and the length of time spent on viewing or associated with the product. The perceived cost of the product and the service are being advertised. The public service ads are generally over 66 seconds and tends to be watched by the YouTube viewers for only 28 seconds. 

Band 8 Answers 

The above table gives the data of different types of YouTube video advertisements along with the length of the ad and the duration of the ad viewed. From the data given here, it can be said that public service advertisements have the highest average length of viewing.

The standard length of the advertisements varies from a minimum of 21.8 seconds for pharmaceuticals to a maximum of 66.7 for public service advertisements. There is an exception for ads related to government- and technology. Generally, products and services require large financial support and it tends to have longer advertisements watch time than the average time limit.

When we talk about entertainment, financial services, and travel advertisements, they all come with an average time of twenty-eight seconds or longer. The less expensive products, such as consumer electronics, clothing, and medicines, are expected to have a shorter duration. Advertisements for expensive products or services are predicted to be watched for a longer duration compared to inexpensive items’ advertisements.

The viewers on the average watch more than 50 percent of advertisements for their entertainment, travel, business, and finance deals. On the contrary, viewers tend to watch fewer ads for cheaper goods such as consumer electronics, clothing, and medicines which are 20-30 seconds long. But, business & finance, entertainment, and lifestyle-related advertisements have an average time limit of half a minute. Technology advertisements are slightly lengthier than the rest.

The ads shown on YouTube have an average duration of exactly 38.1 seconds. YouTube users watch the ads for almost 20 seconds which is approximately half of the length. Moreover, People prefer watching more public service ads for almost 28 seconds, which is higher than the other types of ads. In terms of the ratio, people prefer to watch ads like entertainment & news, travel, retail, and consumer electronics on YouTube ads. While most of them skip clothing, technology, and business & finance adverts.
