How to Write a Concise Sentence in IELTS Writing is the topic supporting candidates to develop skills in IELTS Writing. Concise writing in IELTS writing means that with the use of limited words candidates need to express the given topic’s ideas clearly and in a simple language. Avoid Repetition of Same Ideas 

Candidates need to know that they should not be using the same words or their meanings in the same sentences twice in IELTS Writing. Whether it's writing task 1 or writing task 2, candidates should focus on ensuring that the words and phrases are not redundant and make it concise.

• I was offered a free gift by the cosmetics brand- redundant

Rewrite it as-

• I was offered a gift by the cosmetics brand. A gift is always free hence, should not use the word free with gift together, keeping it concise.

Strengthening Use of Adjectives 

While writing a sentence in IELTS Writing, consider using stroger adjectives. If candidates are able to use one word adjective for a three word phrase, it makes the sentence concise and allows for a more apt sentence to be created. Moreover, examiners would find it easier to read and would understand the grammatical knowledge of the candidates.

For example:

• Jack said something which was extremely funny

It can be rewritten as-

• Jack said somethings which was hilarious

Avoiding filler words 

Candidates often use filler words while answering writing task 1 and writing task 2. Using filler words in IELTS Writing tasks fills up a lot of space and does not make much sense. Candidates need to avoid using them and be more concise.

For example:

• There is no doubt she will the race

Rewrite it as:

• No doubt, she will win the race

Use Active Voice in Sentences 

In order to sound formal in tone for IELTS Writing, candidates generally use passive voice in their writing tasks. It is mainly advised that in IELTS writing task 1 and task 2 candidates make use of active voice wherever possible. The reason is that active voice is more straightforward and louder than passive voice and hence, allows it to be understood more precisely. To make the language of writing task 1 and writing task 2 more concise in IELTS, active voice should be used.

For example:

• Today’s lunch is being cooked by Mary

Rewrite as:

• Mary is cooking today’s lunch
