- Do you often handwrite?
Yes, I do. I have the habit of journaling my thoughts and day. Because of this, somehow I have to write for at least 10 minutes a day. I feel that I can connect with myself deeper when I put my thoughts into paper. I have the habit of preparing the to-do list for the day and writing a journal. To keep the authentic element alive, I write things down on paper rather than typing them.

- Do you prefer handwriting or typing on the computer?
To be honest, I love to write rather than type on the computer. Even though typing on the computer has its own benefits like the option to edit, spellcheck, etc. I still consider writing.

- What are the benefits of handwriting?
In my opinion, writing enables one to think clearly and deeply. It constitutes one to develop their intellectual ability. The more we write, the more we can connect with our innermost self. Also, it improves our style of handwriting. It seems to me that writing is associated with the intellect of a human. The more we write things down, the more likely we have the chance to improve our brain activation and memory power. Writing enables one to wake their creative talents as well.

- Would you say that having good handwriting is important?
Yes, absolutely. It seems to me that good handwriting skills can aid one in their intellectual development. Many of my friends who have good handwriting are smarter than the rest.
Additionally, having good handwriting symbolically represents that the person’s creativity and intellect are very high and good. Such people with good handwriting are considered to be smarter than the rest.

Yes, absolutely. I believe that, given the rate at which technology is evolving, our next generation will be constantly interacting with computers. However certain areas where handwriting cannot be avoided like calligraphy may still flourish in the future as well. Also, nearly 70 -80 % of all the work has been automated. There are software and apps that help humans to type things down with so many advanced options like spellcheck, editing, grammar check, etc. It is so much easier to access and carry them along with us. So, I think people may opt for typing instead of writing.
- Do you think handwriting is still important?
Definitely yes. Studies claim that writing improves memory. It also aids in keeping the brain active. When we put our thoughts into words using our hands by writing, we are more likely to convey more emotions. Thereby our brain retains and relates to it more. Also, writing with a pen or pencil is more expressive. It helps us convey our emotions through our words. Also for students writing aids them to have a better grasp of the things that they have learned.

In my opinion, even though technology has improved a lot, handwriting has its own relevance and importance in one’s life. So it may be there in the future as well. Also, computers have replaced the majority of the work done manually by a human. Handwriting is no exception. Anyhow there are certain areas where handwriting still plays a major role like calligraphy, drawing, and other artistic areas which demand their own essence. I don’t think a computer can reproduce that essence which humans alone can produce.

- Do you usually write by hand or write using a computer?
It generally depends on the situation I deal with. If I have to work professionally, I prefer using the computer because it has become the standardised form of work today. Whereas for my personal work, I always prefer and love to write things down.

- When do children begin to write in your country?
The majority of children begin writing at the age of four, or when they begin school. However, some of them learn to write when they are about 5 or 6 years old. In India, children start to write once they are 3-4 years old. Usually, when the child is accepted into a kindergarten, they start to hold the pen, pencil, and colour pens around the age of 3-4 years.

- Do you think handwriting will die in the future?
No, I believe we will continue to write in the future. Many people believe they can express their emotions better when they write, and handwriting is more personal, therefore I believe we will continue to write in the future. Though the usage of technology and digital gadgets have increased, the authenticity in conveying something definitely lies in writing. Writing has its own essence of emotion attached to it which a phone or computer cannot reproduce.

Yes, definitely. Children should be taught to write. Because writing helps them to activate their brain. It makes them embrace their creativity. It also helps them develop their basic creativity and invokes interest in many artistic areas.
