However, the two groups had some notable differences in the less common handedness categories. Among identical twins, who share all of their genes, left-handedness occurred at twice the rate of ambidexterity - 10% compared to 5% respectively. In contrast, for fraternal twins who on average share half their genes, ambidexterity was significantly more prevalent than left-handedness, comprising 8% versus only 3% of this group.
While a strong right-hand preference dominated in both samples, the patterns of left-handedness and mixed dominance differed depending on the degree of genetic similarity, with identical twins demonstrating more closely matching handedness overall.
