Band 7 Answer

The accompanying line graph demonstrates the level of acid in the mouth that is produced by consuming sweet foods, notably sugar and honey. And the potential for tooth decay as a result of this acid level. The pH value decreases with increasing acid concentration, as seen in the line graph. And a pH value less than 5.5 is harmful to teeth and promotes tooth decay.

As can be seen from the above graph, our mouths have a pH level of 7 at rest, but this level starts to drop once we eat sweet things. When we consume sweet foods, such as cane sugar, the pH level lowers below 3.5 within 5 minutes. And it stays below the danger level (5.5 pH) for more than 30 minutes. When fruit sugar is consumed, the pH level falls almost to 4 and stays there for 20 minutes. The pH level also drops below 5 when we consume honey, and it stays there for around 13 minutes. Cane sugar is the food item that causes the greatest tooth decay among the three because its low pH level results in a higher acidity and promotes tooth decay. Finally, it should be noted that all sweeteners have the potential to rot teeth, albeit honey and fruit sugar are more likely to do so than cane sugar.

The given line graph analyses the effects of fruit sugar, cane sugar, and honey on tooth decay by displaying the acidity level in our mouth. It is caused by consumption. The acidity in the mouth remains at a level where teeth are unlikely to be in danger of decay when the pH level is above 5.5.

However, sugary foods temporarily lower the pH in the mouth, and the longer the pH levels are below 5.5, the higher the risk of tooth decay. The pH level drops below the danger level after 5 minutes according to the figure. It contrasts fruit sugar, cane sugar, and honey—the three most popular sweeteners. Cane sugar poses the biggest risk among these three sweet treats. As it lowers pH the fastest and keeps it below the danger limit for the longest amount of time (more than 30 minutes). The pH level decreases to 3.5 after ingesting the cane sugar and stays there for more than 30 minutes. Fruit sugar, on the other hand, causes the mouth's acidity level to drop below pH 4 in 5 minutes and stay there for 20 minutes. The pH level drops to 4.7 in 5 minutes after ingesting honey and rises to above pH 5.5 in 15 minutes, making it the least dangerous of the three.

The data regarding the change in mouth acidity after consuming sweet items, such as fruit sugar, cane sugar, and honey, is revealed by the given line graph. As acid in the mouth causes tooth decay. It is evident that the PH value of the tongue substantially decreases within 5 minutes of consuming sweet goods.

Fruit sugar, which has a PH of 4.25, cane sugar, which has a PH of 3.5, and honey, which has a PH of 4.85, are the next most acidic sugars. Additionally, the pattern is identical for both fruit sugar and cane sugar. After 34 minutes, fruit sugar has achieved the amphoteric state, but cane sugar has reached this state after 40 minutes. In addition, fruit sugar and cane sugar pass the PH threshold for tooth decay after 19 and 32 minutes, respectively. Moving on, from 5 to 10 minutes after honey eating, the PH value of the mouth remained stable. Aside from this, there is a rapid rise in PH value, which after 13 minutes crosses the danger zone for tooth decay. And then reaches the normal PH value of the mouth after 25 minutes. Overall, it is clear that eating sweet foods causes a dip in the mouth's pH value, and that after a while, the acidity returns to normal. However, cane sugar takes the longest to dissolve, while honey dissolves quickly.
