Band 7 IELTS Essay

In today’s society, the interactions between grandparents and grandchildren have decreased considerably and they spend quite less time with each other. It is essential to note that the consequences of this phenomenon are quite negative in society. Accordingly, it may be identified that grandparents have always been the source of knowledge and discipline for the children. They have remained a part of the society where children used to go to their grandparents’ house during vacations to spend quality time.

Grandparents have many stories to tell which have hidden value and meaning. Furthermore, grandparents being the older section of the society are mostly lonely and alone who love spending time when their grandchildren arrive. However, with working parents in society increasing and vacations limiting it becomes difficult. Children mostly consider vacationing in different parts of the world rather than spending time in another house. The consequence is felt by the older people who according to study by Oxford University feel 60% more stress in today’s society than before. Their mental health is definitely affected by the ignorance and lack of interest in their grandparents' house and visiting them. One of the main reasons can be identified with the generation gap which also affects both the generations equally. Hence, the grandchildren remain devoid of the love and affection of their grandparents. The latter also faces immense emotional turmoil for the inability to provide affection. Moreover, these grandchildren are missing out the fact that the kind of love and affecting the grandparents shower is inexpressible. It becomes extremely emotional for the grandparents also to experience the lack of emotional attachment that grandchildren of theirs do not possess. This creates srin in their relationship affecting them eventually at emotional and mental levels. In conclusion, lack of frequent meetings between elder people and their grandchildren has both psychological and social negative outcomes.

Band 7.5 IELTS Essay

In today’s modern day families, it is quite difficult to find kids having any value or understanding about relationships. Grandparents and grandchildren have had relationships in the past social conditions which have always remained quite affectionate. Children used to wait for vacations to arrive to go to their grandparents’ home and enjoy their time listening to stories and having good food. However, with changing time and society, this has decreased considerably and spending quality time with children with their grandparents has become rare.

The consequences of this can be considered detrimental in society. First of all, children have a huge impact on their grandparents in society. They are always the lucky kind of children when they are with them because of their happy nature which comes out of love. They are the ones who teach them good values and behaviors which cannot be sought otherwise. They are the ones who teach their grandchildren about different life lessons, share experiences and stories which keep them happy. When working parents go out for work, they are ones children always find around them. The communication gap between them simply is creating lack of emotional bonding and decreased values of life amongst the children. This is also affecting the mental health of the older people who are unable to find their grandchildren around them because of the parents’ busy schedule. These grandparents also find themselves in utmost loneliness and depression which has also been found from multiple surveys. These surveys have stated that the elderly people attain better mental health conditions around their grandchildren. It may be considered that the impact of the innocence of the grandchildren on the elderly people is huge whereby it is possible for them to remain happy. Thus, it may be considered that the consequences of the lack of interaction between grandparents and grandchildren is negative to the former’s mental health.

Band 8 IELTS Essay

It is important to focus on the fact that today’s modern day societies have forgotten the value of how important it is for grandparents and grandchildren to bond with each other. They rarely spend quality time with one another and this can have detrimental effects. Grandparents and grandchildren come from two very different generations. Accordingly, their mindsets and their ideas about different aspects in life are completely different. When these two generations lack communication they tend to resent one another.

The younger generation in today’s society is highly impatient and lack of communications with their grandparents increases it. In such a situation, a gap in their interactions and rarely spending quality time results in an increasing gap between their ideas. Lack of acceptability results in straining their relationship further. Secondly, it is important to understand that grandparents are the people who have complete knowledge about the cultures and traditions within a family. However, lack of social interaction with the different generations like their grandchildren might result in lack of cultural development. This may negatively impact a society where cultures and traditions are not known further by the later generations. Apparently, the entire legacy may be lost if the grandchildren lack the knowledge about their own family’s history. For instance, in Europe it can be seen that various national celebrations are disappearing. This is because of the younger generations losing connection to their grandparents. They have very little to no knowledge about their traditions and customs. Moreover, daily values are transferred from one generation to another. With such rare interaction and lack of relationship development among them the possibility of the grandchildren not having any knowledge is higher. Hence, grandchildren spending rare quality time with their grandparents can seem to have negative effects on the children and the society. It is recommended that younger children are able to spend their weekend with their grandparents more often.
