Band 7.5 IELTS Essay

The argument has two sides like a coin. First, we shall discuss whether the government is responsible for funding school buses.
Nowadays the days' majority of the parents in households are working. They do not have the time to commute long distances as they’ve got their obligations to pursue. A school bus might be their only option, therefore, many households firmly believe that this provision should be a duty of the government to provide. A child should not be robbed of their right to education because of the constraints of their parents, and vice-versa. Both parties should be able to fulfill their requirements in a manner that satisfies both.

Educational institutes should take up this responsibility to those who cannot for some reason have a personal vehicle, can use the transportation provided by the institute itself.
This benefits those who live long distances away and do not have the provision of vehicles or those with working parents who might need to travel to their work as well.
There are so many more advantages of a transportation system. Traffic congestion is a serious problem especially in the mornings when everyone is rushing to get to their schools/universities/work. Especially around these said institutes. If the government invests in this public transportation system, it means fewer cars on the road and less fossil fuels burned, which is greatly beneficial to the environment as well. This also means the parents do not have to unnecessarily worry and stress about getting their kid to school, and/or not making it on time due to traffic conditions.
With the ever-increasing price of gasoline, this also means the financial burden on parents to pay for petrol, or to arrange for personal transport lessens and eases their minds. Another positive impact is the children get the opportunity to socialize and meet new people who they would otherwise not meet around their institutes. This encourages their social skills and their conversations outside their classes. They make more friends and the short or long ride to and from school can be majorly enjoyable than traveling in a personal vehicle.

Band 7 IELTS Essay

Although there are many pros, there are also certain cons being argued about this system of transportation. There is the argument that a bus can't cover all the residential areas. Some people live in developing or construction zones, where a large vehicle like a bus is not suitable to be driven due to the uneven or narrow roads. The argument says that it is not fair for the tax money to be spent on something that only benefits a few.

Some parents also would be more comfortable dropping off their children personally rather than trusting an unknown bus driver. They feel much safer seeing to it themselves that their children have reached the destination. Yet another point put forward is the familial element. Many have fond memories of being driven to school and dropped off by their parents, and this generation where family is drifting apart by many elements, some feel this would also be a major takeaway from a developing child’s family time.
Some believe that instead of spending money on transportation, the government could utilize this money to build better infrastructure providing students and updated educational material. Another view is that sometimes these buses are not up to the mark, they’re not cleaned and hence the surroundings can be dusty and affect the child’s exposure to bacteria. Since so many children from different places travel in one enclosed space, those who are very particular about their exposure to the air might have problems with this.

Band 6 IELTS Essay

Which arguments seem more favorable? This is a highly subjective manner. The argument depends on the personal feelings of the parties involved and their willingness. On one hand, traveling on a mode of public transport and meeting new people helps a child become independent and teaches them a lot of values in life. The child is more aware of his/her surroundings and as he/she grows up they’re more aware of the road they’re taking and soon, might just be able to drive up themselves.

On the other hand, the government can indeed take these resources and invest in better education opportunities and materials for the students to receive top-class education in their prime years. Although it is correct to point out that a child regularly traveling in a private vehicle will not have as good of communication and socialization skills, as well as awareness of their surroundings when compared to a child that takes the bus every day.
Parents need to be able to trust their children and accept the fact that growing up means they need to let them experience things on their own, transportation being one of them. They should not be dependent on their parents to travel to their education every day and should learn to accommodate. Investing in buses for schools and other institutes should be encouraged, all the proper information regarding the driver, the bus plate numbers, the route taken, etc. should be provided to the child as well as the parents.
A child’s education should not be affected just because the guardians got stuck or were late. A child should travel to their institutes freely knowing the school is responsible for them to reach on time, as personal vehicles can be blamed for tardiness, but the school-provided transportation can’t.
