Band 7 Answer

The diagram given provides clear data on the global market share of five cell phone manufacturers from 2009 to 2013. These cell phone manufacturers include Samsung, Apple, Nokia, LG and ZTE. It can be identified from the bar graph that shows overall mobile phones’ shares in the market for Samsung’s market increased over time.

The bar graph clearly presents Nokia had the largest market share of cell phones with over 400 million phones sold in 2009. In comparison other brands like Apple sold only 20 million mobile phones in 2009. LG sold around 130 million cell phones while ZTE sold around 50 million cell phones, all of which are higher than even Apple. Almost after 2 years, Samsung’s cell phone share market increased with 320 million cell phones sold while that of Nokia decreased with 20 million less phones sold..Significantly, the number of phones sold by Apple increased to just about 100 million units. This is the data that can be gathered from the number of phones sold in 2011.

Even further after two years in 2013, Samsung’s sales in mobile phones peaked at 450 million units, becoming the largest brand to sell the highest number of phones. Even for Apple the sales of units increased to 150 million in 2013. In the case of Nokia, in 2013, the brand sold only 250 million units that year. Volume of sales of phones by LG came down to less than 100 million units in 2013 and for ZTE the it increased from 50 million in 2009 to 70 million in 2013.

Band 7.5 Answer

The given bar graph provides illustrations regarding the numerous brands of phones and the number of units sold by them from 2009 to 2013. The graph holds a comparison regarding these brands and their market share based on the number of units sold.

Taking into consideration 2009, the number of units sold by Nokia was the highest with 440 million mobile phones sold. In the same year, Samsung was the second highest selling with a market share of 230 million units sold by the brand. Apple in 2009 sold only 20 million units while LG sold around 120 million units and ZTE sold only 50 million, yet being more than Apple.

In 2011, Samsung’s sales of mobile phones increased by 100 million units while that of Nokia dropped by 20 million units. Apple increased its mobile phone units’ sales to almost 100 units. LG saw a decrease by 40 million units while ZTE experienced an increase by 10 million units.

Finally, in the year of 2013, Samsung took a significant pace and hike in sales and reached on top with the sale of 450 million units. However, the sale of Nokia declined drastically by 50% reaching a mere units of 220 million. However, Apple continuously increased and reached nearly 150 million in 2013. While sales of LG declined incessantly and reached around 60 million, ZTE saw an increase sticking to only 70 million in four years.

Band 8 Answer

The given bar graph above depicts the number of mobile phones sold by different brand manufacturers between 2009 and 2013 considering their global market sales. The brands mentioned are the top five brands including Samunsung, Apple, Nokia, LG and ZTE. In 2009, Nokia had the highest number of mobile phone units sold for around 440 million units.

While Samsung, which seemed to be its biggest competitor, only sold 230 million units. Apple in 20009 only sold 20 million units even behind LG and ZTE which sold 120 million and 50 million units respectively. Cut to two years in 2011, Samsung’s sales increased by 100 million units while that of its competitor Nokia fell by 20 million Units. Apple in that same year experienced a boom by 100 million units sold. LG faced a decrease in its sales by 40 million units and ZTE had an increase by 10 million. In 2013, Samsung became the largest seller of mobile phones with global sales of mobiles of 450 million units surpassing Nokia which declined and sold only 220 million. Effectively, Apple sold 150 million units and ZTE stayed at its place with only 10 million units increasing to 70 million. However, LG faced a decline in its sales of mobile phones with only 60 million units sold.
