Focus on Skills for IELTS Foundation Content

This book is perhaps best utilized in a category, but might help self-study too. Behind the trite TEFL unit headings (`A sporting chance’, `It goes with the job’, `Family values’, etc.), there are many topics that ought to keep students interested, like animal rights, the environment, architecture, smoking, the web, and mobile phones. The text is obvious, bright, and attractively laid out. Photos, illustrations, and diagrams all rush, modern and dynamic. In some course books, visuals can dominate or confuse the text. Not here. It’s as easy on patience because it is more based on attention. The supplementary materials at the rear are excellent, including a tutorial glossary, IELTS writing practices, and an excellent grammar guide.

Focus on IELTS has long been a well-liked choice for teachers and it’s easy to ascertain why. There’s an honest balance between authentic Academic IELTS test items and meaningful group exercises, while the inclusion of a grammar reference guide and additional writing practice makes this a solid friend for classroom use. The remake corrects most of the mistakes within the first edition and adds more EAP elements like critical thinking and reflective learning. One remaining drawback is the lack of solved IELTS papers and scripts. Also available during a Foundation edition that introduces test practice more gradually.
