Topic: Few people devote time to hobbies nowadays. Why do you think this is the case and what effect this has on the individual and society in general.

Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

It has been observed that leisure activities and the amount of time spent on them have decreased over the past several decades. I think the primary causes of this are addiction to digital devices and the drive to obtain material wealth. While the main results are a decrease in physical activity and decreased efficiency at work.

There are two main factors that contribute to the progressive decline of hobbies in modern society. This can be attributed, in the first place, to the revolutionary digital age. People have become couch potatoes as a result of this change. Because they are spending more and more time in front of their laptops, smartphones, the internet, and social media. Therefore, it goes without saying that the population loses interest in engaging in activities other than these. Second, they reduce the amount of time they spend on hobbies by increasing their working hours in an effort to become materialistically successful. For instance, my uncle, who has long been an avid biker, now barely rides any more because he has been hired by a big global corporation.

In addition, the aforementioned causes have negative consequences on the general populace. The reduction in physical actions has the most effect on people. As a result, they develop an imbalanced lifestyle. And become vulnerable to conditions including high blood pressure, obesity, high cholesterol, and heart attacks. This is due to the body's accumulation of fats, which over time may gradually lead to obesity. The decrease in productivity at work is another related effect.

A person's performance at work is always impacted when they don't engage in their hobbies. Because, beyond a certain point, they just can't take the stress of their jobs.

As a result, it is obviously practical in nature that people have obvious reasons for not actively engaging in recreational activities. I firmly believe that everyone should set aside time for the hobbies they find interesting given the worrying effects of doing so.

Band 7.5 IELTS Essay

We can see that there is fierce competition among many people in today's modern society for resources and positions of authority. People frequently neglect to engage in activities that they enjoy and make them happier, like hobbies, for this reason. Few people genuinely have the leisure to engage in hobbies like gardening, reading, collecting stamps, etc., as far as we can see. Since I personally don't find enough time to accomplish things that make me happy, I can relate to this statement. The essay outlined below will walk you through why this is happening to most people right now. And what impact it has on both the individual and the larger society.

We can observe that very few people have the time to devote to hobbies. People are forced to concentrate more on their work, which is necessary for them to advance along their individual career trajectories. As a result, individuals are unable to spend time on an activity or interests they enjoy.

Avoiding leisure activities and concentrating solely on work can cause conflicts. In families due to neglect of the spouse, kids, and parents, it can make you sick, or in the worst case, depressed. Therefore, it will negatively affect your family life as well as your health. Again, prolonged usage of social media or television. This can lead to some serious issues related to mental and psychological health.

In light of everyone's busy schedules, it's clear that finding hobbies you enjoy is equally crucial. People would be able to release whatever stress and anxiety they may be carrying from their jobs. If they could spend at least an hour or two each week doing something they enjoy, such as gardening, listening to music, reading, etc. As they return to work with a calm and relaxed attitude, this will also boost their efficiency and effectiveness. The majority of the population would surely contribute to the beauty of the society. If they were able to spend at least one eighth of their weekly time on an activity they enjoy.

Band 9 IELTS Essay

Nowadays, hardly anyone engages in a pastime. This is not a good trend, in my opinion, as people can suffer when they don't have a passion. Nowadays, a pastime can serve as a stress reliever in a highly demanding and competitive environment. Because people who have hobbies are less likely to commit crimes, hobbies are also good for society.

Since everyone is so busy these days, they don't have time for hobbies. People often have busy vocations and jobs that leave them with little free time. Unsurprisingly, virtually few people today engage in hobbies. The ease of access to alternative forms of entertainment is another element that deters individuals from engaging in hobbies.

In the modern day, we get brand-new, fascinating information every millisecond. People are now permanently addicted to their displays as a result of the development of technology like the internet and smartphones. They only ever check and update their social media profiles. Internet addiction is unfortunately destructive to the individual, unlike a hobby. Of course, it allows them to pass the time. But the majority of individuals who spend a lot of time on social media and the internet are unhappy with their lives. They yearn for more and feel insufficient.

On the other hand, a hobby is an activity that gives you emotional satisfaction. It might even bring about financial gains. For instance, someone who takes up painting or blogging as a pastime is likely to be able to make a good living from it. Additionally, studies have demonstrated that hobbies are good for society as a whole. They provide meaning to life and keep people busy. People with hobbies are consequently less prone to engage in antisocial and criminal behavior.

To sum up, the biggest factor discouraging people from having a hobby is easy access to alternative forms of pleasure. But this is a terrible development that could have long-lasting detrimental effects on both the person and society.
