In the days leading up to and immediately following the birth of their child, the father, like the mother, may feel a lot of worry and tension. They will be able to cope with this scenario owing to paternity leave. If the husband is working at the office while his wife is giving birth, he will be under a lot of stress. As a result, he will be less focused on his work which will in turn lower the quality of his work. Another source of stress for him is his inability to help his wife during the birth of their child. As a result, several countries now allow fathers to take time off work following the birth of their child. This short leave entitlement will not only allow fathers to be with their spouses during the delivery, but it will also allow them to maintain a work-life balance, ensuring that the quality of their work is not harmed.

The second rationale for providing paternity leave is that it allows spouses to assist their wives with child care. Childbirth can be brutally painful for the mother, and she will require assistance in the days following the delivery.
