Band 8.5 IELTS Answer

The table compares the weekly expenditure of a single retired person with a

couple who are retired in Australia. We can clearly see that the couples are spending more than the single person, majorly on housing and clothing.

The table shows the expense for a comfortable lifestyle. The total expense per week for a single person is AUD 650 and that of a couple is AUD 934. If we compare, the expense is lesser for couple since there are 2 persons and about AUD 300 more. Out of the expense, the maximum cost goes into housing and other miscellaneous expenditures by both categories of retirees. The amount spent on housing by single and couple retirees are AUD 160 and AUD 284 respectively. The expense devoted weekly to other things are AUD 177 and AUD 223 for single and couple, respectively. A single retired person spends AUD 64, AUD 92, AUD 67, AUD 55 and AUD 35 on health, shelter, clothing, food and shopping respectively. On the other hand, a couple has to spend moderately more, which is AUD 77, AUD 110, AUD 120, AUD 70 and AUD 50 on health, shelter, clothing, food and shopping respectively.

Overall, we can see that the least expenditure was done on shopping and food by both single and retired couple. The maximum was spent on housing and other things.

The table illustrates the weekly spendings of a retired single and a couple in Australia. The expenses are measured in dollars.

The table clearly shows that housing and Others expenses are most for both single and couple retiree. The least expense was done on shopping. In addition, the retired couple per week expenses total is more than a single person who retired. However, if we compare, it is cheaper for 2 people if compared to a single person.

For a retired single person, per week, the expense is an average of 650 dollars. Housing expenses are AUD 160 whereas, the highest money which is AUD 177 was spent on other expenses. Spending on clothing is double than shopping expenses. The other expenses like food, shelter, and health expenses are AUD 55, AUD 92, and AUD 64, respectively.

For the retired couple, the total weekly expense is nearly AUD300 more than one retired person. The expenses on food and health are similar, around AUD 70. The couple spends AUD 120 on clothing. Moreover, the money spent on shelter is AUD 110, which is half than shopping usage. On Other expenses, the retired couple have spent AUD 223 dollars. We can conclude that the expense is more for a couple than a single person.

Band 7 IELTS Answer

The table shows the budget to live a comfortable lifestyle in Australia for a retired single and a retired couple. We can see that the average budget of a retired single is lower than that of a retired couple. If we look at the table, Housing and Others expenses are the two most expenditure for single retirees and retired couples.

The expenditure for housing of retired single is AUD 160, which is lower than that of the retired couples. Meanwhile, singles retirees spend AUD 177 on Other activities, while couples spend AUD 223. Regarding health, the retired couples spend AUD 77, which is AUD 13 higher than the expenditure of a single retired person.

The shopping, food, and clothing are the lowest in terms of expenditure. A single person spends AUD 55 on food, AUD 67 on clothing and AUD 35 on shopping. Whereas the couple spends AUD 50, AUD 70 and AUD 120 for shopping, food and clothing respectively. Overall, we can see that the total expense of a single person and a couple is AUD 650 and AUD 934 respectively.
