Excessive Use of Modern Technologies IELTS Writing Task 2

The negative impact of these technologies being used excessively by the youth is highly concerning. While since a young age, the youth of this generation are engaged using smartphones for texting their friends. Texting has become quite popular among the youngsters who use millennial language and shorter forms of the words to send text messages to people. Moreover, with the modern technologies advancing at a faster rate, smartphones usually have the auto-correct options which corrects the spelling mistakes while typing a text. This has allowed the young people to not focus on their typing errors and hence, their reading and even writing skills have deteriorated. Moreover, higher engagement in their smpartphones or using of computers for playing games or watching movies online has distracted them from skill development. On the other hand, while distraction is common for the youth, it has also helped them in expanding their knowledge and skill development as well. The youth of the 21^st century are highly focused on ensuring that they develop their technical skills vehemently. The use of their smartphones or computers can be considered essential means as with the help of different websites and online skill development courses, the younger people are able to develop their reading and writing skills. Moreover, the use of smartphones and computers have enabled them to enhance their writing and reading skills from online sources rather than books, providing them with vast ideas. Hence, it can be said that literacy levels have increased amongst the youth which is a positive factor. In most of the developed Western countries, use of tablets and laptops are made as part of the education process. However, excessive use since a very young age might affect the mind and cognitive development of children affecting their capacity to learn and acquire knowledge. 

They are more inclined towards managing their time and schedule in playing games or chatting with their friends using social media. Accordingly, the young people have become increasingly engaged with these technologies which have been affecting their development of other skills. Their reading and writing skills and performances are deteriorating. More often, the young people have become used to typing messages in shorter forms and using acronymns making it difficult for them to learn the actual words and spell and pronounce them right. Moreover, even the MS Word has spell checkers within its software along with the presence of various spell checker tools online which helps in correcting their language styles and spellings. Further, the young people are more inclined towards reading different articles and books using the ebook facilities or PDFs available online. On the other hand, young people have become more interested in watching movies rather than reading books which has further decreased their skills. However, these technologies also have advantages as well. The use of the E-book may be identified with greater relevance with those who are highly inclined towards reading. Apparently, people involved in research work can be considered to be of immense importance thereby using the online sources for conducting their studies. Online dictionaries provide ample ways for young pople to learn spelling and languages along with using the appropriate pronunciation of different words. Thus, both pros and cons are identified for modern technologies. 

However, I also feel that some positive impacts of these technologies also exist. The negative impact of these modern technologies can identified with the fact that young people are highly inclined towards using smartphones or computers. They are constantly involved in either texting people or maybe watching TV series or playing games. They have literally lack of any sort of leisure activity and are highly distracted from their studies. Significantly, this has been affecting their cognitive development. It has been affecting their skill development as they are so into writing in ways whereby lacking the ability to use complete spellings of words. Young people find it convenient and are always on the rush to save time. This has developed the millennial language where most of the time the young people make use of acronymns in place of writing the entire phrase. Hence, their ability to learn skills in reading and writing has decreased massively. The impact of excessive use of these technologies are also felt in terms of their physical and mental health resulting in obesity and depressive conditions, respectively. However, on the other hand, positive developments and impacts can be found in the form of learning technical skills, reading from online books and PDFs, etc which has enabled them to expand their knowledge. They are constantly aware of the current affairs with online news that is constantly being read by them. Hence, both positive and negative impact can be identified although excessive use of these technologies has led to negative impact outweighing the positive ones.
