Every Year Several Languages Die Out IELTS Writing Task 2 consists of three sample answers provided below. The task requires the candidates to provide a tentative and argumentative answer for the question. The sample answers comprises two parts: Introduction and body. The introduction is a brief description about the topic. The body contains argumentative statements and tentative answers to support the test-taker's perspective.

IELTS writing task 2 evaluates candidates based on the knowledge and views they have expressed. The areas that candidates are assessed on are grammar, vocabulary, and style. Topic: Every year several languages die out. Some people think this is not important because life will be easier if there are fewer languages. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

Language has always been an integral part of our existence. There have been numerous languages that have come into existence since the beginning of time. English is one of the widely used vernaculars today, but many have also become extinct today due to various reasons. Let us discuss some more benefits of multi languages in today’s world and also why some languages are getting extinct. One of the foremost advantages of multi-languages or multilingualism is that it creates an awareness of different cultures. Secondly, it adds to the educational and academic value, enhances creativity and appreciation of local languages. Now coming to why some languages have become extinct. So many languages become extinct every year due to extermination of people who speak that particular language and when the efforts to preserve the languages are minimal or none at all. The question is whether we should have fewer languages or preserve them. I believe that there should be a diversity in languages. The dying out of a few languages leads to the oral traditions of a culture being dead. Besides the songs, anecdotes, and the historical occurrences that document an important piece of human history are also gone. It is not just the information that is lost, but the viewpoint to look at the world in a different way also disappears. Every language has their own grammatical rules, phrases and expressions that provide a different perspective and understanding of the world around us. Without language diversity or fewer languages the world would gradually become homogeneous. Thus, a strong effort must be made to preserve the lesser-known or the ingenous languages.

It might seem that only a handful of languages are used around the world but in reality there are over 6000 languages that are used daily for communication. Some of these languages are not known and are only used by ingenious people. Over the past century about 300 plus languages have been lost whereas some researchers believe that the percentage will be even higher in the future. Multiple languages can undoubtedly lead to a cultural diversity, however, as there are over thousands of languages, it would be easier to only have a few of them.

Some of these languages are spoken only ingenious people which is why they are not taught in schools and as a result the coming generations have no knowledge about them whatsoever. There is also a movement towards more dominant languages like English, Chinese, Mandarin, Arabic etc, which is why ingenious languages or lesser-known languages are not prioritized as much. People believe that dominant languages will also create better employment opportunities in the future. As per UNESCO Atlas there are about 500 languages in the endangered list today. There are also languages that have also become extinct to name a few Sanskrit, Latin, Ancient Egyptian, etc., are all dead. I believe that narrowing down the languages list today could make our life easier. Keeping in mind the modern and rich languages used across the world would make the communication better. Modernization cannot be ignored and also the languages that are prevailing during the time. If we could focus and reduce the list of languages they would become effective and richer. Thus, it is better to have fewer languages keeping in mind the evolution and modernization.

The usage of languages and their diversity have been long discussed. People have a divided opinion whether we should have selective languages or should we be well-versed in different languages including the ingenuous or lesser-known languages. I, on the other hand, totally support multilingualism. Every language has their own different culture and history. The diversity in languages will create appreciation and understanding of different cultures. It is rightly said that people who speak different languages are usually broad-minded and are open to different cultures. Additionally, I believe that there are pieces, books, manuscripts etc., that depict fundamental occurrences in history. If the lesser known or the ingenious languages are extinct and keep degrading, all information about the historical developments would be lost. English, Chinese, and Spanish are some of the most popular vernaclars used today. If these languages were to prevail over others it would be difficult to understand different traditions like

Japanese, Korean, Indian and so on. Undoubtedly, it is a convenient and easier route for effective communication. But I also think that if we do not make an effort to preserve the diverse language out there we would be losing a major part of ancient history. Ancient traditions, cultures and their knowledge must not be neglected, as it is the root cause of the evolving world today. The languages spoken by ingenious people should be taught to their upcoming generations as it would open the doors to understanding their culture on a deeper level.
