Band 8 IELTS Answer

The infographic looks at the number of people employed in the UK in 2013, broken down by English language proficiency. Nearly 28 million people aged between 16 and 64 are employed. Employment depends heavily on a person's ability to speak English fluently. For example, almost 72% of native speakers have a job, compared with 65% who speak English well and only 48% who speak English poorly. Men are much more likely to be employed than women, especially among non-English speaking groups, who are twice as likely to be in paid work as men. When it comes to employment, people with good English skills have roughly the same opportunities as native speakers, with around percent of these people falling into this category.

In contrast, the majority of people who do not speak English well are in entry-level jobs, jobs that are probably defined as unskilled, while a significant minority (21%) are in skilled occupations.

Other employees with moderate English proficiency made up 65.4% of the workplace, with a fairly large difference between the number of men and women at 14%.

Based on language proficiency, about 19% and 17% of them tend to work in simple and specialized fields, respectively. Meanwhile, people with poor English language skills already accounted for almost half of the employment opportunities, of which 68% were men. Despite their insufficient knowledge of English, almost 40% of them chose simple jobs and 21.1% preferred the craft field.
