Email IELTS Speaking Part 1

Email Speaking Part 1 is the IELTS Speaking topic. These questions test the knowledge of candidates based on basic conversational English. Moreover, this is a technology oriented-questions, thus, few technical terms can be helpful for the candidates if used. There are 12 questions that candidates need to answer. These include- do you always write or send emails, what do you write about, do you think emails are helpful, what kinds of emails do you send and receive, do you think it is a good thing that some companies send out letters/spam emails for the purpose of advertising, how often do you write letters, On what occasion do you write letters, do you like writing letters to relatives and friends, do you and your friend keep in touch by (handwritten) letters, how do you keep in touch with friends and relatives (email letter, by phone, by any other way).

IELTS Speaking Part 1 consists of an introductory section where candidates are asked questions on personal details, family, friends and work. In IELTS Speaking candidates need to speak for 4-5 minutes in this section. Candidates' speaking abilities are assessed based on this section considering their grammar and vocabulary in English language.

Question 1: Do you often write (or, send) emails?

Answer: I routinely send emails as a student to turn in assignments and projects for class online. Email is another method I use to communicate with my teachers.

Question 2: What do you write about?

Answer: Whenever I have any views or inquiries regarding a topic, I usually write about them. I've also sent a few emails to a friend who lives in Canada, and we periodically talk about our personal lives and experiences.

Question 3: Do you think emails are useful?

Answer: Yes, I think emails are very important because they allow for professional communication and allow us to convey important information and content with only one click. Old emails are also incredibly simple to find because they are kept around eternally unless the message is deleted.

Question 4: What kinds of emails do you send and receive?

Answer: I mostly send and receive emails related to my assignments and tests in different subjects.

Assignment – task or piece of work

Question 5: Do you think it is a good thing that some companies send out letters/spam emails for the purpose of advertising?

Answer: Yes, I agree that emails have increasingly become a key form of advertising for some companies. While this may be beneficial for them to communicate with their clients, I find emails annoying because they clog up my inbox and cause me to occasionally miss important emails as a result.

Question 6: How often do you write letters?

Answer: I seldom ever send letters when it comes to our private conversations. I communicate via email when conducting business, even if I utilise social media platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, and others for personal reasons. Although I was only recently made aware of the idea of letter writing, I do remember writing a letter to my mother in elementary school.

Question 7: What do you write about?

Answer:In my first letter, I expressed my love and admiration for my mother. I thanked her for giving birth to me and for all else she does for my family and I.

Question 8: On what occasions do you write letters?

Answer: I don't send invitation letters to people for special events. Typically, I use social media tools to send out formal invitations.

Invitation – a written or verbal request

Question 9: Do you like writing letters to your relatives and friends? (why/why not?)

Answer: Since letters seem to be a more sophisticated form of communication, especially when hosting parties, I enjoy writing letters to my family and friends. But in general, I like using WhatsApp for communication.
