Electrical Appliances - IELTS Speaking Sample Answer

In IELTS speaking part 2 students are asked to speak about the given topic written on the cue card provided to the candidates. The IELTS speaking cue card contains the topic name and guidelines. The IELTS Speaking cue card asked the candidate to speak about the Electrical Appliances. Like to describe the useful electrical appliances which they use in their home or work. There is a wide variety of topics available in IELTS speaking practice papers to practice from.

Topic: Describe an Electrical appliance that you would like to have at your Home/WorkPlace.

You have to answer keeping these points in mind:

1. What is it?
2. Where is it?
3. How it works/ Why it is used?
4. Why would you like to have this appliance?
5. What is your life without it?

First, I would like to thank the IELTS committee for providing me with such an interesting topic. I would love to share my experience on this topic.

Starting with a question, I would like to say that what’s that thing that has held all the world together even in this deadly hour of the pandemic? Yes, indeed, that’s the Internet. And to access the internet, a person uses either his laptop or smartphone.

Here, I want to discuss not one electrical appliance, but instead two appliances, i.e. laptop and smartphone. I have taken these two appliances because, for me, these two are “two parts of a coin“ at times. This means One can do the work of another and vice versa. So, these two appliances are the most important thing which I would like to have with me 24*7. They have made our work life more convenient, even in the time of pandemics. Not only our work life, but rather it has helped us to reach out to our families, friends, colleagues and the outer world. When people are stuck in their houses, frightened, anxious and depressed at times, This is the only reason to bring back a smile to everyone's face. When all negative news is pouring from everywhere, one glimpse of our family and friends can bring a sigh of relief to us, which is only possible through video calls.

Our smartphone and laptop have not only strengthened our emotional bonding but in fact, it has also helped in the smooth running of our professional and educational requirements. Nothing has stopped. Be it Schools, Colleges, universities, Institutes, the flow of education has become even more convenient for the students. And I think even after the pandemic, the government should try to use this technology to ensure that the flow of education reaches the last person in the most remote areas who are not able to access it due to any restrictions, hurdles or problems reaching school.

After school, the next most important aspect of anyone's life is his/her profession. And these two appliances have not left any stone unturned in providing us with the best of solutions. With good internet speed, we can easily complete our professional work efficiently and effectively.

I am a Content writer and a French Trainer. I can confidently say that these two appliances have helped me a lot in completing my task. Whether it’s researching articles, writing articles or conducting an online session, reading mails etc. These electrical appliances have made my task convenient and at an ease. For my research and writing, I always prefer to use my Laptop. And for checking emails and replying, I prefer my smartphone. I also prefer using my laptop for attending meetings and online training sessions.

So before wrapping up, I would once again like to say that these two appliances have not only helped us in this pandemic for a smooth work/school life, but it is indeed a revolution for this whole era. And I think now, it’s really difficult to think about your daily life without these appliances.

Today, every household has an ample amount of different electrical appliances. And the one which I liked in my household is my Microwave. This is an electrical appliance which has made our life much easier. As for me and my husband, both are working, so sometimes it is difficult to cook and reheat the food the traditional way on the stove. But all thanks to our microwave, that helps us and reduces our kitchen time. It not only reheats our food in seconds, but it also helps in removing moisture from some of the crispiest food items like chips etc. At times when one just has a craving for hot gulab jamun, just like in a shop, These appliances emerge as a blessing for our family. And for those lazy ones, who found it too hard to warm up their lunch plate, This appliance is no smaller than magic for them. Now I have a less messy kitchen and one can directly reheat and serve in the same bowl.

So, for me, this appliance is the most important electrical appliance in my life.

To answer this question, I found it difficult to answer any electrical appliances, because there are too many electrical appliances which make our life easier. But the kitchen appliances range from electrical appliances I liked. Because they not only help us save our time, but they make our work easier, efficiently and effectively. Being a housewife, at times it is very difficult to manage household chores and professional life at the same pace. But thanks to my Food processor, It makes my kitchen work get finished in a jiffy. Whether I have to make juice for the elders or milkshakes for the kids. It’s not a big deal for me now. From preparing dough for bread to chopping vegetables / slicing salads for dinners or shredding carrots for desserts. All these tasks which previously seemed like mountains were now working in minutes. Now I can focus more on my kids and my work rather than spending hours in the kitchen. So, I think this is the kind of electrical appliances in the Kitchen range, which every household has to make their life easier.
