Band 7 IELTS Essay

It is well known since we live in a capitalist society where people lie about what they own and consume. There are various issues that both people and society are facing as a result of this practice of mindless consumption. The discussion of this will be expanded upon in the next paragraphs, which will also offer a convincing conclusion.

One of the major elements influencing our existence in the current era is consumerism. It is not just driven by advertising. It also helped spread the notion in our culture that in order to be happy, better, and more successful, people must project their status through pricey goods.

Wearing a high-end Rolex or Omega wristwatch, for example, is considered to be a status statement. People sometimes mistake happiness with satisfying fictitious material needs rather than legitimate ones.

It's undeniable that this trend is creating enormous personal and societal issues. People frequently spend more money than they can afford in an effort to appear more important than they actually are. Which causes them to lose track of their spending priorities. Furthermore, parents often buy a certain product to satisfy their child's wants because of peer pressure at school.

This frequently leads to spending on temporary satisfaction rather than the true worth of the goods. As a result, parents may feel unwelcome psychological strain and stress to manage money or find ways to make more money.

As a result of materialism as well as consumerism, both society and the environment we live in suffer. As evidenced by the growth in corruption levels due to rising wants and the pressure to perform well and earn more money to spend. I believe that recognizing the importance of spending money wisely will help to alleviate some of these pressing social issues. And restore a healthy balance to both the lives of individuals and society at large.

One of the fundamental causes is that people in today's culture strive to acquire more and more things in order to be satisfied. Because most people have the belief that the greater we have, the worse off we are. As a result, community always elevates a person to a greater level with many or more comforts. Which is actually often used as a gauge of success in modern society. People desire to be respected by others who are less fortunate than them, and it appears that materialism plays a role in this.

People now have a deeper grasp of comfort because of science and technology's ongoing advancements. And as a result, we are more eager to buy items that will improve our daily lives. The media's massive dissemination of information about retail establishments, technical gadgets. People have started prioritizing social media over family time, which has made them more status aware. The only goal in life is to lead a lavish lifestyle by taking advantage of all the advantages mentioned above. In order to elevate brand culture and join humanity's elite.

Finally, I'll explain that increasing your material possessions is damaging to your mental health. Because it increases your risk of developing depression, anxiety, and other problems. Everyone must approach the purchase of diverse things from various sources with logic, reason, and balance.

Band 8 IELTS Essay

The modern world's materialism is destroying everything. There seems to be an attempt to put material items ahead of valued principles like love. And in the current world, happiness has altered how firms run. Even though materialism is associated with higher levels of spending and debt problems. Many people still believe that acquiring material possessions is necessary to obtaining important life goals like pleasure, prosperity, and respect. Because the general consensus is that the more money we have, by far the worse off we are. As a result, a person is always raised to a higher level and given many or more conveniences by their community. It is very frequently employed in contemporary society as a measure of success.
