Band 6 IELTS Essay

There isn't a nation on earth where there aren't criminals, period. Furthermore, it goes without saying that we must deal with criminals. However, opinions on how to treat them vary across individuals. Although some believe that incarcerating criminals is the best course of action. Others agree to a certain extent that job training and education are beneficial.

In the first place, it is a useful strategy for encouraging offenders to lead regular lives. But for them to change their beliefs, a welcoming atmosphere is necessary. Because they are hesitant to accept assistance of counsel from people who think differently than they do. In this instance, a recovery programme may help them adopt a more positive mindset. At the same time, we must not overlook the reality that the majority of offenders commit crimes as a result of their financial and employment situations. In light of this, employment training may be able to assist them in leading a normal life following rehabilitation. Additionally, society can gain from this. Because job training may ensure a prosperous future and the time spent in education and rehabilitation may result in a decline in crime. On the other hand, those who had committed a heinous crime like murder might not be covered by this policy. These offenders should be imprisoned in this situation and deprived of their fundamental human right to freedom. They deserve to pay for their sins. This might ensure the safety of other members of society. But it is clear to everyone that maintaining a prison is too expensive. The money used to operate a jail could instead be used for other socially beneficial endeavours. At the same time, we should not forget that in prison, people can negatively impact each other as well. However, they can also develop a resentful personality. To conclude prison is always a quick and simple solution to committing a crime. However, given the extent of crime, we ought to have various rehabilitation programmes, and going to jail is not the solution to committing a crime.

It cannot be denied that crime has dramatically increased in recent years. Some claim, however, that a prison sentence is not the most effective approach to deal with the issues caused by crime. And in its place, instruction and training are needed. I think it can be good in some cases to educate people about crimes.

But punishment is also required to deter offenders from committing crimes. It is evident that a number of offenders engage in criminal activity on purpose. Such as theft, killing, rape, and so forth. If the court does not take strict action against them, it is likely that this type of person will continue to choose the same course of conduct. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary to imprison offenders and even apply the death penalty in cases of murder. For instance, one case of gang rape occurred in New Delhi, India, in 2015. And the perpetrators of that crime received the death penalty from the authorities. Overall, there are other options outside education. In contrast, it is easy to understand why some individuals favour criminals receiving training and information. Because, in some instances, only counselling and orientation can address juvenile delinquency. Additionally, some criminals engage in negative activities as a result of mental illnesses. Therefore, in these kinds of circumstances, appropriate guidance could enhance the criminals' mental stability. For instance, there have been several cases of people who were associated with gangsters that have been documented. But after being made aware of the drawbacks of this action, they finally improved. Thus, encouragement may be provided via direction and incentive in specific circumstances. To sum up, it is undeniably true that criminal acts are being committed. However, appropriate legal punishment should be taken into account so that future criminals might learn their lesson. If the offence is minimal, educating and counselling may also be a successful strategy for dealing with the people.

Band 7.5 IELTS Essay

Regarding whether or not criminals should be punished by being imprisoned, opinions vary. In some circumstances, I believe prison is the only option. But in the majority, I believe that education, vocational training, and rehabilitation are preferable. When it comes to criminals who pose a risk to society, like murderers, prison is the only option because they cannot be forced to integrate.

Most of the time, making offenders go to jail has negative consequences that outweigh the benefits. In regular prisons, criminals pick up a lot of knowledge about crime, and when they are released, they often commit crimes that are more dangerous. In other words, jails serve as institutions of crime education. They are unable to be responsible citizens as a result. Additionally, the cost of maintaining and administering jails is frequently high. Without prisons, the government would be free to use that money on other crucial initiatives like healthcare and education. It would reduce some of the strain on the state. On the other hand, I think the best ways to assist criminals in improving their citizenship are through education and job training. First, education has a significant contribution to raising people's intelligence levels and creating a civilised society. As a result, individuals have a second chance to acknowledge and consider their remorse. It encourages them to reintegrate into society. Second, once people are released from prison, the best approach is to teach them employment skills that will make them employable. By offering employment training, the criminals' motivation to perpetrate crimes would be eliminated. I'll end by suggesting that rather than despising the criminal, we ought to hate crime. We should concentrate on the root causes of crime in order to combat it. The rehabilitation of convicts is aided through education and employment training. Because of this, those who commit less significant crimes shouldn't be imprisoned. Reforming them should be the main focus.
