Do Apartments Have More Advantages Than Houses? IELTS Writing Task 2

There are a greater number of benefits for living in a house compared to the other one. A house may be more spacious than an apartment. It can be designed upon the owner's choice. They can also include a large playground for children, swimming pool and so on even if it costs a little bit more than having an apartment. In addition to this, people can ensure that they are getting enough privacy in a house. Once invested, the houses can be considered as somewhat an asset, as the price of plots are increasing day by day. Although, building houses is somewhat costlier than an apartment and there may be some extra responsibilities to maintain the house and yards. On the flip side, apartments have their own benefits that people can get access to a common playground, swimming pool and so on. And also, there is a low cost in taking care of it as it is mostly done by the management itself. However it has more negatives than positives. In an apartment the proximity to neighbors may be very high and thus the privacy of the people living in it may be disrupted. Also, most apartments don't have access to balconies, yards, gardens and so on. If the family is big, they may find it very difficult to cope with a situation in such an environment.

In a nutshell, even having a home is a part of a dream in everybody's life; some want to own a house while others want an apartment. In my viewpoint, even if managing an apartment is easier, than to take care of a house; a house is always better as it provides enough privacy and security that everyone urges for.

Houses, on the one hand, are very comfortable to live in. It can be designed and constructed upon our own interests. We can build as many as rooms, gardens, rooftops, open spaces and other facilities. The owner can decide whatever facilities they want to have in their own houses. Along with that, houses are somewhat like an investment. Once invested to buy land or build a house, it will be profitable as the price of land is increasing day by day. However, it has some disadvantages as well. The amount someone has to invest on buying land or building a house will not be cheap. Moreover, maintenance and security of these houses also requires some amount of money. On the other hand apartments are there to satisfy the needs of human beings to an extent. If someone has a small family, they can buy an apartment and it will be affordable too. The consumers can get everything ready made. For instance, they don't have to design it, as apartments will be furnished before buying it. However, the customers can renovate it, if they want to. Nevertheless, an apartment has its own drawbacks too. The customer who buys it cannot make it big or build an extra room. They can renovate it, but within their own limits. Also they may not build a garden or have a courtyard for children to play.

To summarize, even though building a house or buying an apartment is everybody's dream, it is upto every person to decide what they want to buy. As we have already discussed in this essay, both have their own pros and cons. By analyzing the benefits and ill effects of both of them; consumers can decide what they want.

In the current world, most people are living in a nuclear family. So there may not be the need for a vast house. Moreover it will be much easier to manage an apartment than a house. Because most apartments provide free cleaning facilities to people and they can get rid of these responsibilities which they may not get in a house. People may have to pay extra money if they want any house cleaning service. Additionally, apartments provide tight security to people which they can't afford on their own. And apartments also provide swimming pools, parks, gyms and other facilities to people and they can get access to these at their fingertips. As for houses, they have their own positives such as; people can design it on their own, children can get close to nature and so on. It may also be spacious where people can use these spaces conveniently for their own purposes. But in houses they may not get the facilities they are getting in an apartment. People living in houses may have to travel more in order to access these kinds of facilities. Parents may not feel safer sending children outside, in order to access the kind of facilities available in apartments. Along with that, it is very hard to manage a house on our own. Furthermore, the maintenance charge is also high; where it is given as free in apartments.

To conclude, we all have that one ambition in our mind to own a house. As already mentioned in the essay, both houses and apartments have their own advantages. However, apartments offer some practical advantages for everyone to live in; especially for nuclear families.
