The process of making five distinct kinds of tea is shown in the diagram. It is immediately clear that there are five various types of tea. Even though they are all made from the same leaf and are manufactured differently during the production process. The kind with the fewest complex components is white tea, which requires only four manufacturing steps.

For each of the five teas, the first three steps of production are the same. The growth of the leaves is followed by their harvesting and subsequent withering. The final step, which involves drying all of the leaves in an oven, is also the same. On the other hand, many production techniques are used in the stages that follow. White tea is special since it doesn't undergo any additional processing, to start. Large-leaf black tea, oolong tea, and green tea, on the other hand, are all rolled during the process. Green tea is steamed first before being rolled, but it is not fermented, in contrast to the other two teas. Those are both rolled first before being fermented (oolong only slightly but large leaf black completely). Last but not least, little leaf black tea is crushed rather than steamed or rolled prior to complete fermentation.

The diagram outlines the several processes that tea leaves go through to produce the five different types of tea. Only one additional operation is required to transform the prior type of tea into the subsequent "Oolong tea" quality. As part of this new phase, leaves are mildly fermented before being dried in an oven. The production of Large Leaf Black Tea and Small Leaf Black Tea requires the most passes. For the Large Leaf Black quality, the leaves are rolled after being withered, whereas the leaves are rolled for the Small Leaf Black quality. Before being oven dried and prepared for sale, both specialties have a final treatment that includes a full fermentation.
