Band 6.5 Answer

The photographs show the steps involved in making sugar from sugar beets. Overall, the procedure, which starts with loading beets as well as finishes with sugar crystallizing, has nine steps as can be observed.

The beets that will be used to make sugar are first loaded into a truck. A beet washer is used to clean the sugar beets once they have been freed from the pebbles and soil. The beets are first sorted away from the dirt and rocks. Then these beets are carefully washed and cleaned.

The next step is to chop the beets into little cassettes, which are then combined with water that has been heated to 70 degrees. Out of heated beets with water comes the sugar juice. The milk of lemon is added to the sugar extract after it has been prepared to purify the juice. Then, using a filter, the mixture of lime milk and sugar juice is transformed into pure and clean sugar juice. The water is then evaporated by heating the sugar extract repeatedly after that. This is the procedure that takes time. The solution of sugar is heated continuously until it loses all its excess water and the water evaporates. A centrifuge is used to crystallize the sugar at the end. This sugar is then sent for the packaging and consumers.

Band 7.5 Answer

The flowchart shows how sugar is produced from sugar beets.

Overall, there are nine steps in the linear process, which starts with unloading the truck of beets. And ends with spinning the sugar in a centrifuge to crystallize it. Throughout the process, additional materials are introduced at various points.

Beets are unloaded during the first four phases, then after they are sent to a screening device to be shaken to remove rocks and debris. The beets are then cleaned before being cut into cossettes. The beets are carefully washed and cleaned. Utilizable sugar is created during the final five stages using intricate procedures. Hot water is used to extract the sugar, and after that, fresh juice is added with milk of lime as an extra material. The beets are mixed with water and heated at 70 degrees. The combination is filtered in the following step to remove the milk of lime and produce pure, clean sugar juice. The sugar juice is then heated to evaporate the water. The solution of water sugar is heated until all the water evaporates. To crystallize sugar, the sugar juice is lastly spun in a centrifuge. This sugar is used by the consumers and sent to the other markets.

Band 8 Answer

The pictures demonstrate the processes involved in turning sugar beets into sugar. Overall, there are nine steps in the process, which begins with loading the beets and ends with crystallizing the sugar.

First, a truck is used to transport the beets that will be utilized to create sugar. Once the sugar beets have been liberated from the soil and rocks, they are cleaned in a beet washer. The beets are separated from the rocks and dirt first. These beets are then meticulously cleaned and rinsed. This is an important process which ensures cleanliness and hygiene.

The beets are then chopped into tiny bits and blended with water which has been cooked to 70 degrees. Sugar juice is produced when heated beets and water are combined. After the sugar extract is ready, the lemon milk is added to clean the juice. The combined lime milk and sugar juice is then filtered to create pure, clean sugar juice. The water is then removed by continuously heating the sugar extract. The process that takes the longest is this one. The sugar solution is constantly heated until it completely evaporates and all of the surplus water is lost. The sugar is eventually crystallized using a centrifuge.
