Band 6 IELTS Answer

The process of producing electricity at a geothermal power plant using geothermal energy is shown in the figure. In order to produce electricity, this technique makes use of heat that is found deep under the earth's surface. The process of generating electricity consists of five steps in total. Cold water is employed in the production of electricity.

This cold water, which is deposited in a rectangular storage tank on the crust of the ground, is pumped down to a depth of 4.5 km. The water gets to the injection well in the next stage. The geothermal zone, which is composed of hot rocks, is traversed by the water horizontally from the injection hole. The heated water then enters the third phase, passes through this zone, and finally arrives at the production well. The fourth step is the condenser, where water that has been pushed back down to the earth's surface from the producing well arrives. The water, now in the form of steam, leaves the condenser and travels through a little, short pipe. The steam then travels to a steam-powered turbine in the final step, where it is used to power the generator once more. Electricity generated by this generator is subsequently sent to transmission towers. Multiple cable lines now allow electricity from the transmission tower to be divided and sent to various areas of the area.

The process of generating power from geothermal energy is shown in the diagram. This method uses heat that is present deep under the earth's surface to generate electricity. There are a total of five phases in the production of electricity. In the earliest stages, cold water is kept above ground in what seems to be a tank separate from the main power plant.

And it is injected into a four-and-a-half-kilometre-long injection well that is situated underground. It goes through what is referred to as the "geothermal zone," which is composed of hot rocks. The now-hot water is subsequently sent up the production well into a condenser. It is located above the ground and is a part of the major complex after these parts, or what we can call the middle section of the process. In the final phases of the procedure, the water is transformed into steam. And sent through a conduit into a different structure that houses a turbine that is rotated by the now-vaporized water. Electricity is produced by the generator using the energy from the turbine and then sent across power wires. The turbine and generator are both located in the same structure. Later, the generator releases its power, which travels to a transmission tower through cable lines. Through a number of cable links, electricity from the transmission tower can now be divided and sent to various areas of the area.

The process of producing electricity in a geothermal power plant is depicted in the schematic. With each step clearly indicating the temperature and condition of the original cold fluid (water). The first phase is pumping cold water downhill until it reaches the injection well, which is 4.5 kilometres below the surface of the land.

From there, the water is carried through the geothermal zone, which is made up of hot rocks while it is still cold. Heat transfer occurs in this area as a result of the temperature difference between the water and the rocks. With the flow of heat going from the hot rocks to the cold fluid. The fluid that results is hotter, and the water that results makes it to the producing well. The hot water is then pushed up the same amount of distance (4.5 kilometres), arriving at an above-ground condenser. This is where the fluid transitions from a liquid state to a vapour state. It should be emphasised that even though the hot water changes its phase, the steam that results maintains its original temperature. Now that the steam has reached the turbine, it operates on the steam and rotates a shaft that links the turbine and a generator. The shaft rotates as a result of the work being done on the fluid, and this mechanical energy is later transformed into electrical energy in the generator. Later, the generator's output of electricity travels to a transmission tower through cable lines. Multiple cable lines now allow electricity from the transmission tower to be divided and sent to various areas of the area.
