Model Answer 1

Name of the magazine?

As a slave to nostalgia, I’d have to say that my favorite magazine is the Balarama. It is a weekly mainly targeted at children and adolescents.

Discuss the magazine?

Not only does it have comics, which too are both in-house characters as well as ones from Amar Chitra Katha, Disney, marvel etc. When it comes to the layouts and placement of content, it is very colorful. The right shades in the right places would capture the attention of any child. The cover itself was attractive enough that you’d want a copy. One of the most popular series is Mayavi. When I used to have a subscription, it was at the very end.

Why is this magazine my favorite?

A sure way that kids would read through to get to this or that might have been what the publishers intended. The reality was that kids would start from Mayavi at the end and read through in reverse. An added fancy were the occasional tidbits they gave out. These came in the form of stickers, magnets, erasers, all in the form of some of the beloved characters like Santa, spiderman, and Shikari Shambu. There was one bitter part to my memories with this magazine. It was that I never won when it came to scratch cards. And sadly enough it was a dream that never came to fruition. But all in all the world of fiction contained in those pages was enough to forget about all the disappointment. Further, just immerse in the world of those characters. Balarama did a splendid job of being inclusive in content. There was tons of comedy, some thrillers and it even included trivia. I am grateful for the magazine for being a leeway so that I never lost touch with literature.

Name of the newspaper?

My favorite newspaper is The Hindu. It is an English newspaper that’s circulated throughout India and one of the best English papers in the country. The Hindu covers a wide variety of topics ranging from national issues to local matters. This is however based in accordance with the region in the areas of politics, economy, environment, and so on.

Discuss the newspaper?

Because the Hindu is a staple for IAS aspirants, it can be deduced how well they deliver the news. Moreover, school teachers also recommend reading The Hindu as a way to develop the English language skills of students. For this, reading the editorial is highly recommended. Other than the paper itself the supplements are also highly informative. The articles are presented a bit differently from the main paper and cover topics such as science, agriculture, history, culture, etc. It is bound to expand the knowledge of the reader. The Hindu was even once listed among the best newspapers in the world.

Why is this newspaper my favorite?

Now that everything is going digital, it is no surprise that The Hindu would come out with an e-newspaper. This is helpful to those that are busy and don’t have the time to pick up the traditional printed newspaper. The electronic version is available at your fingertips thanks to mobile phones. Moreover, they also have an official website where we can have quick reads. They are the first newspaper to have an official website. These are some of the reasons why The Hindu is still one of the widely read newspapers in India.

Model Answer 3

Name of the newspaper?

I am an avid reader of Mathrubhumi. In Malayalam Mathrubhumi translates to “Mother Land”. As a regional newspaper, it is in Malayalam. Mathrubhumi is one of the most widely read newspapers in Kerala. The front page contains all the latest updates and news of more importance.

Discuss the newspaper?

The inner pages reports can be on various topics such as economy, politics, society, and so on. The second page contains information about what is happening in the temples nearby, what is going on with resident associations etc. There are also whole pages dedicated to topics like “Vanijyam” on the economy, “Vidya” on education, “Kayikam” on sports, etc which contain various reports. Some articles are more about current affairs while some also talk about history and facts in general. Education sector talks about regular and distance courses as well as about admissions and the application process of the courses and the institutions that offer these. I also read the snippets given under “Vidya” which incorporate various topics like science, geography, history, etc. This section is very colorful and is aimed at children however it is knowledgeable even for grownups.

Why is this newspaper my favorite?

Mathrubhumi also incorporates images. These pictures bring more insight into the story and give a wholesome picture to the readers. It also serves as a way to attract a younger audience. They also have a page dedicated to the obituary. In this time where the pandemic isn't showing any sign of ending, the obituary pages serve as a way to know if any of your beloved have departed.

One of the things that fascinates me is how Mathrubhumi pairs with a cup of tea. It is an Indian thing to have your morning tea with the newspaper. Though due to electronic journalism this phenomenon is slowly disappearing from the routine of younger readers.
