Who is he/she?

In the world of technology, making an online friend is very easy. We all have had our online friends. One of the online friends that I had was a childhood friend of mine. John went out of town due to a change in his father’s job. I never saw him or spoke to him after that, but about 5 years ago he pinged me on Facebook. Instantly, we recognized each other and exchanged numbers. We then started chatting on Whatsapp. He was now residing in the USA and was doing well in his career.

How do you know him/her?

He was my childhood friend. We had been knowing each other for 2 years in our childhood days. John was an introvert, strong-headed and amicable. I admired how headstrong he was, and always pursued the things he wanted in life. Another reason why we had such a great bond was that he never really cared what other people thought of him. He focused and worked toward his goals relentlessly. Even as a boy he once lost a scrabble competition, he was so mad at himself that he spent the next few months only perfecting his craft. He was competitive but in a good way. He challenged himself in every possible way. As soon as we started chatting, I could sense he had not changed a bit.

How long you two have been friends?

It has not been long since I knew him for a short while in childhood. He was the same person that I had known 10 years ago. I was happy that after so many years we could rejuvenate our friendship. We talked for hours, I shared what had been going on in my life and he did the same as well. It was like I had found a great friend and brother. People never really understood due to his introverted nature, but he was a great friend if people got to know him better..

How do you two maintain online friendship?

He often advised me on the good and bad things and consoled me when I was feeling low. We shared a strong bond as children and still shared the same friendship we had as children. We chatted every day since and I was extremely happy that I had gained a great friend.

Who is he/she?

I would like to talk about a friend that I met in primary school about 8 years ago. Her name was Carla. We used to play together every day and soon became best friends. We later completed our schooling together but unfortunately were admitted to different colleges. I was in Bangalore, and she went overseas for further studies.

How do you know him/her?

Since our school days, we used to chat and call each other every day, however, later as she went overseas, managing the time to talk to each other was a struggle. Initially, Carla was very busy as she had enrolled in some extra courses and of course, we couldn’t chat with one another as we used to. We used to chat or call each other up only on weekends. She shared her college stories and I shared mine. I wanted to meet and share all about my college days, however, she would only visit once a year.

How long you two have been friends?

As it was difficult for her to visit India, we kept in constant touch over the phone. There were days we used to be busy with our projects, exams, etc., and could not talk for weeks. But after we finished up with all our work, we again found the time to stay connected. It still intrigues me how we kept our friendship going.

How do you two maintain your online friendship?

She is now back in India and working as a regional manager in one of the reputed banks, and I am working as an Engineer in the Government Department. We often catch up and discuss how we spent our college days constantly being in touch with one another and still our friendship is as strong as ever!

Who is he/she?

I am not a social media fan and cannot spend hours on the same. It happened two months back when I met a friend on Instagram. She was a childhood friend of mine. We shared a strong bond during our school days. As soon as I saw her on Instagram, I could vividly remember the time we had spent in school. We used to sit together in every class, and eat our lunch together, even though our homes were close by so we walked home together.

How do you know him/her?

She was the first friend that I had made in school as I was somewhat shy, it was a relief that I had found her. We used to study for your exams together and scored almost equal marks. We were inseparable in our school days. Later we wanted to pursue our higher studies in the same college but unfortunately, she got admitted to a different college, I always wanted to pursue my studies in Germany and I had been admitted to one of the reputed colleges there thus, I left to pursue my further studies.

How long you two have been friends?

We didn’t keep in touch much after that as she was busy with her college. We had not spoken to one another for 4 years when 2 months back I got her message on Instagram. We then started chatting again and relived the moments that we had spent together in school. From completing my homework sometimes to helping me study for the exam, she used to help in every way. Further, I got to know that she was working in the United States and I was back in India.

How do you two maintain your online friendship?

As we couldn't keep in touch before, we decided to not repeat the same thing again. We constantly messaged each other whenever we were free and shared our experiences. She told me how she was loving her job and enjoyed every bit of it. I shared my job experience with her too. We also got to talk to each other's families once in a while. It was quite relieving to be bonding again and relieving the memorable and fun time that we had spent together in our school days.
