Describe an Old Person You Admire Cue Card is the topic for IELTS Speaking Part 2. The three model answers on the topic have been given below. The topic answers three key questions including- who this person is, how long you have known him/ her, what qualities he/she has.

Who this person is?

The neighbour is a retired soldier named Moe Myaing. He has now retired. He resides with his family in the apartment across from us in Yangon. Before we moved in, he was already residing in this apartment. He left the Myanmar Army as a colonel in the first few months of 2000. Furthermore, despite being in his 70s, he still appears powerful. He also has a rugged good looks and is intelligent. He was the first person I noticed when I entered the apartment building.

How long you have known him/ her?

He was engaging in some form of physical activity. He frequently pays a visit to my dad at our house, and he frequently invites us to his apartment as well. I enjoy how honest he is. He enjoys being direct in his speech. In addition, he makes an effort to honour his obligations and promises. He is courageous and adept at handling trying circumstances. For a variety of reasons, I admire Mr. Myaing. He is a person with extensive training and education.

What qualities he/she has?

Despite being an army, he knows how to deal with the civilians while a majority of the army personnel are unable to deal with the ordinary citizens. He loves to meet with newer people and particularly kids. I also have learned many aspects from him which are effective in my real-life situations. For all such reasons, I admire him most.

Who this person is?

I want to discuss about a particular elderly lady that I really admire. Other than my elderly grandfather, no one else is this person. He loves to describe himself as a man who is 75 years old. He is also in charge of our family. He goes by the name Gautam Sarkar. He is a hero, generous, and a man of his honour in my eyes.

How long you have known him/ her?

having been able to recognise and identify people since I was 3 or 4 years old, and having spent the last 30 years getting to know my elderly grandfather. I believe I am in a great position to characterise my grandfather as, for the most part, a loving and caring person. He enjoys eating an apple every day and dining with his 3-year-old grandchild on fried chicken.

What qualities he/she has?

My grandfather is a retired government serviceman, so he still has an ‘aura’ of authority around him, but he doesn’t mind cracking occasional jokes to his grandchildren. I have seen him reading many books, but I have seldom seen him arguing with other people. I admire my grandfather, mainly because I have found him to be carrying himself well even at his old age. I also admire him because he still has a “young” heart, which motivates him to still enjoy the little things in life.

Who this person is?

My grandmother is the senior citizen I most admire. She has always been a kind person who adored me when I was a young child. She is a friend with whom I feel comfortable sharing all of my private details. She makes every attempt to assist people. She has lived with us for a considerable amount of time, and we have shared many enjoyable moments, so I have known her since I was a young child.

How long you have known him/ her?

She has raised 3 successful children, including my father. She has committed her entire life to raising her children, making sure they are educated, and tremendously assisting them in being established. She has a kind and endearing nature that makes everyone around her happy. She is a compassionate and sage woman.

What qualities he/she has?

I love and admire her for many different reasons. The most important reason is that of her unconditional love and affection for me. She is a good mentor who can show me positive ways and guide me in my distressing time. Talking to her is a soothing experience and the stories she tells are always attractive and full of morality. I have learned many positive attitudes and good thinking from her. For all those reasons and strong bonding between us, I admire her very much.
