Describe an Art or Craft Activity You Did in School

Model Answer 1:

Art is a very important aspect when it comes to creativity. Although art and craft do not have a lot of people I am very fascinated with the art of sculpting. I have sculpted an idol of a woman sitting on a piece of rock. She has placed her right hand on her chin and is looking in a direction as if waiting for someone. Although I have tried my hand on so many idols before making this.

This was during an inter-school competition held between different schools in my district. I have been represented by the school in an idol-sculpting competition.

I have sculpted the idol with the help of clay. I have used the moisten clay already prepared before keeping it in a wet towel for weeks. I have already kneaded the clay dough nicely to make it more malleable for sculpting purposes. I have started taking a piece of clay and firstly made the base and then made the rock on which the idol will be sitting. Then, I have started from the lower body and then making the upper body and face and then attached hands to the body making it aligned in such a way that it looks like the hand is placed on the chin. After doing this, I have carved the eyes, nose, ears, and lips of the idol. Fortunately, my idol was the best among all and also my idol won the best idol title among all.

It always feels nice whenever I put my hands in soil or clay, it feels so refreshing because this is something I always love doing. While making the idol, I wasn’t thinking about any competition going on but all I thought about was that idol and how well I can make them than my previous ones. I was enjoying what I was doing. I wasn’t thinking about any competition or my competitors, all I was thinking is a sense of satisfaction I was feeling.

Though the art of sculpting is not very common among people. Not a lot of people look at this art form as a recreation or a career thing but, taking it to be as a hobby, it is something which not only comforts and freshens up your mind but enhances your creativity as well.

Model Answer 2:

Art and craft are important academic subjects because apart from being logical and rational and building a scientific temperament, one needs to develop a creative aspect also. But, not a lot of students are interested in the arts and crafts work. In my class, only a few students used to attend our painting class but I was a painting enthusiast.

So, one day my painting teacher has given all her students a painting task where we have to make use of only 2 colors and make a painting that conveys a social message. At first, we all were in dismay about how we make a painting with just only colors. It was a hard task and upon that we were given a time limit of 40 minutes. I couldn’t think of any idea at first but then when I held my paintbrush and looked at the canvas, I suddenly came up with an idea. I decided that I would make a black and white painting depicting an environment with trees with no leaves and a river valley with no water, flowers all shrank up with a social message, BE GREEN AND SAVE GREEN.

I made use of the black and white color for the painting. Firstly, I made a valley with white color and black outlining and used black colors to show boulders on the valley so that it may look like there is no water in the valley. I made a barren land with trees standing without leaves. There are a bunch of flower plants at the bank of the valley that shrank up. I painted the sky with black smoke and a factory chimney from where the black smoke was coming and covering the whole sky. Also, I painted two-three birds who were laying on the land dead.

While painting, I got a little emotional thinking about how life would become one day if we kept our activities like this exploiting our environment. We will be left with no fresh air to breathe. When my teacher saw the painting, she was amazed by my idea and also the painting. She awarded me with an A+ grade and made that painting displayed on the school board. I received a lot of appreciation and it felt very nice to propagate a social message and get accepted by everyone.

Not everyone realizes the fact that art can be used in a better way to communicate our messages to the masses. It is a great way of reaching the masses without saying a single word.

I got fascinated by the art of calligraphy when I saw my senior designing a beautiful poster using calligraphy. I asked her to teach me this art. And to my surprise, she became ready to teach me. After school, she used to give me half an hour to teach me the art of calligraphy. Within 3 weeks, I became good enough in calligraphy.

My school has planned for a school magazine and every student was asked to contribute some articles, posters, paintings or anything creative of their choice for the magazine. Since I became good enough in calligraphy, I decided I will make a poster and write something on it using my calligraphy art. I decided to write the motto of the school using calligraphy.

At first, I was so jiggling with the idea of what to make for the magazine, and so much brainstorming, I realized why not use the skill I have learned recently, i.e., calligraphy. I took a sheet of blank paper, used some color to make a beautiful background, and painted the school building at the back with light, subtle colors so that it may look a little blurry. After the painting dried, I took my calligraphy pen and carefully calligraphed the motto of the school big and clear. In the end, at the right corner of the paper, I wrote my name and class in calligraphy. The next day I went to submit the article to the magazine committee. They were very pleased with me and liked my article a lot. They even commented that it is such great work by a 7th-grade student.

As I heard that the magazine committee was very much pleased with my work, it felt like butterflies in my stomach. I ran to my senior and told her about how the committee appreciated my work. I thanked her for teaching me such beautiful art. I realized that even the words can be written most beautifully and stylishly and style has its valley.

Calligraphy is such beautiful art, where the words can be designed in such a stylish and curvy manner that it attracts the eyes of the viewer. One must give time to such art.
