Model Answer 1

What it is?

Most often, people keep the antiques that they derive from their ancestors. My family had many antiques gifted by my ancestors. The antique I would like to talk about today is a gigantic wall clock. We installed the clock in our living room which was gifted to us by my grandfather.

How long your family has it?

He had bought that antique wall clock in the 1950s. Antique wall clocks were in trend in the 19th century, but at present people prefer more minimalistic designs. These huge antique wall clocks were considered as a symbol of wealth. The antique wall clock that my grandfather had gifted us had an interesting backstory. He had bought the wall clock in the 50s while he was residing in England. It is undoubtedly a masterpiece that still adorns our living room.

Where you got it from?

As my grandfather was accustomed to a luxurious lifestyle, it was quite evident that the wall clock was costly. My grandfather never compromised with the things he wanted, which was one of the things that I loved about him. Even though present-day people prefer minimalistic wall clock designs we still have this wall clock in our living room. I do not think we could ever replace it with designs that are trendy nowadays. Plus, the clock is made from the finest wood and the pendulum is made of light metal. With a height of around six feet and weight of around 6 kg, the clock is polished every year to give it a glossier look. It has somehow become a centerpiece in our living room as guests often praise this antique in our house. Even though the clock required a few repairs, we still preserve this clock with great care. It has sort of become a tradition in my family to give the clock to the next of kin and I believe I would be the next one to take care of it.

Model Answer 2

What it is?

My family and I decorated our house with many antiques. My father is a fan of antiques and somehow after seeing so many of such things around, I too am inclined towards them. It is an interesting topic for me and I am extremely happy that I will be talking about it today. The antique that I would like to talk about today is a large dining table that is made from maple wood.

How long your family has it?

It was gifted to my family by my great-grandfather and it has been in the house for 15 - 20 years. It is chocolate brown in color and even after so many years it looks as new as it was brought 15 years ago. My family has preserved this antique with great care, and one of the reasons would be that it was one of the favorite pieces of my great-grandfather.

Where you got it from?

My great-grandfather bought this piece in the 1940s, thus, the design of the table is absolutely spectacular. It can accommodate up to 20 people, which reminds of the big feasts that were organized in the olden days. We are a family of 5, but we regularly gather around the dining table for our daily meals. The table has an interesting backstory. According to my father, my great grandfather had specially had this table custom-made. He was fond of throwing parties at the time and wanted all guests to gather around a single table so that they could all enjoy their food together. My great-grandfather was an idealist, accustomed to a lavish lifestyle, a great host, and wanted to live his life like a king, which is why I think he would have thought of having the table custom-made. I admired his idealistic thinking. After being shifted from one generation to another and being preserved for over 20 years, the table is now comfortably placed in our living room. We use it every day for our daily meals, and it often reminds my father of the few days that he had spent with my great-grandfather.

Model Answer 3

What it is?

Today I would like to talk about an antique that is in my room and matches perfectly with the decor. It is a large closet which is made from oak wood and it has been in our house for over 10 years. It is one of my favorite antiques in the house because firstly because it is spacious and secondly the design of the closet is exquisite. The story of this closet dates back to the 1970s.

How long your family has it?

My grandmother who was staying in Paris at the time had it custom-made. She was too much into furniture designing and always decorated her home with lots of beautiful furniture. She had decorated her home with some exquisite pieces. The designs, the textures, the beautiful patterns, my grandmother wanted her furniture to be one of a kind. It is also the reason why she sometimes had her furniture custom-made. According to my father, this closet was custom-made too.

How long your family has it?

She had asked the carpenter to make the closet using oak wood, and the designs and patterns were all her idea. What I love the most about it is that it is so spacious. It is about 8 x 10 feet and we often get it polished so that it looks glossier. When my friends or guests visit they often admire the closet. I often tell them about how my grandmother had the closet custom-made. The closet has been in our house for over ten years now. Most of my grandmother's possession have been passed on to my father’s sisters. I think we were given the most beautiful piece from her collection. I often look at this marvelous piece and reminisce about the last few days that I had spent with my grandmother.
