Describe a Writer you Would Like to Meet Cue Card

What do you know about this writer already?

There are many things that I wish to ask of the author who penned some of my favorite books. The first one being, how did she imagine such a strong and confident protagonist. How did the idea of Elizabeth (Pride and Prejudice) come to her? I want to tell Jane how she has inspired me to be a self-respecting person.

What you would like to find out about him/her?

Jane weaves words with an unmatched symphony. Over a decade, Jane wrote six novels. Four of which were published when she was alive and two were published posthumously. After reading all of her published books multiple times, the theme that stands out to me is the love she had for heroines. She wanted the best for her leading ladies. She was born in a world where women, low born in particular, weren’t necessarily afforded the luxury of choice. But she made sure her characters had what was missing from her life.

Explain why you would like to meet this writer?

In a way, I feel like I already know Jane Austen. She left pieces of her personality in Jane, Elizabeth, Emma, Elinor, and Catherine. I would also like to know about her writing structure and the authors she looked up to for inspiration. Sadly, most of her work was published anonymously, and she couldn’t even live to see her success. To tell her how far her bedroom scribbles have come would be cool.

What do you know about this writer already?

There have been many nights when the only solace I had around me was his writing. His magnum opus, The Great Gatsby, has been central to American literature for half a century now. I would love to know if Gatsby was based on his real-life experiences.

What you would like to find out about him/her?

I find it hard to believe that someone can be so patient and poetic about heartbreak without ever experiencing it themselves. Throughout his life, he wrote many plays, short stories, and novellas. He lived an interesting life and had his share of professional and personal struggles which influence his writing.

Explain why you would like to meet this writer?

Fitzgerald’s heightened sensitivity and romantic imagination are some of my favorite features of him. To be able to discuss grounds of morality with Fitzgerald would be cool. Fitzgerald lost a lot in his life, and he could never live up to the expectation of his parents, which is pretty apparent in his works. I’ll never forget the day I read The Great Gatsby for the first time, and how I wanted to save the protagonist from the heartbreak he was about to endure.

What do you know about this writer already?

She writes comedy, drama, and thrillers exceptionally well. Not long ago, in 2012, she wrote Fleabag as a one-woman play to channel the cynicism she had in her 20s. On the first day of her show, a critic named Fleabag as ''a feminist rant that goes nowhere''. Well, that show certainly went somewhere, as it was bought by Amazon for a miniseries.

What you would like to find out about him/her?

In 2019, it swept the Emmy awards, and Phoebe legitimized herself as the true talent of her generation. Her words are powerful and PWB is in total control of her art. There are many things I wanna ask her. I think the first thing on my list is a question about her diversification of genre. Along with Fleabag, which is a comedy, she was also the head writer of Killing Eve.

Explain why you would like to meet this writer?

The fact that she can juggle so many projects and produce such excellent content is mindblowing to me. I also have questions about her writing process and her source of inspiration. There are many projects that I am looking forward to from one, which includes an Amazon series with Donald Grover and the new James Bond movie. Phoebe isn't shy about her struggles and has done tremendous advocacy for women in the media. She has a penchant for making villains likable, a concept that her viewers certainly notice and appreciate.
