Answer 1:
When was it?
A few months ago, I found myself in a new city, for the first time in my life, with my family along. We were there for a short vacation, quite unsure of the topography, so a map became a must-have.
Where you were?
The location was a large and busy city, and our hotel was a little ways out from where all the tourist action was taking place. It was agreed that we would create our own path without the aid of a guide. For the purpose of creating routes and identifying dining establishments nearby, I used Google Maps on my phone.
What did you do?
I researched how to get from the hotel to different sights, taking into consideration how long it would take, distance, and modes of transport available, such as buses, among others. Once, we diverged from the set route by walking in the opposite direction, but the maps soon corrected us. It directed us to cafes and markets too.
And explain how you felt about it?
The map enabled me to feel a sense of confidence and freedom. It reduced any anxiety of getting lost, allowing us to save a significant amount of time. It left me in awe of how accurate and helpful digital maps can be. In conclusion, it was a very positive experience that made our journey much smoother.
Answer 2:
When was it?
One of the most memorable incidents involving a map in my life was in college when I had to go to a large university campus for an academic program. It was the first time I was visiting the campus, so naturally, I was a little nervous because the campus was very large and I was not familiar with it at all. The campus had an immense number of buildings, departments, hostels, and campus routes.
Where you were?
As soon as I entered the campus, I realized that there were few signposts available leading people towards the correct direction. However, instead of asking for directions from strangers, I looked up the map on my mobile phone and tried to find the exact seminar hall where the event would be held.
What did you do?
I kept looking at my mobile as I walked to ensure that I am on the correct path. There came a time when it seemed that I am not on the right path in relation to what I had in mind, but I felt reassured because of the map in my hand. Soon, after a short walk, I reached the seminar hall on time.
And explain how you felt about it?
A wave of relief and pride washed over me. I was happy that I managed to locate the spot on my own, without assistance. Working with the map increased my esteem, as it symbolized organization and capability to deal with unfamiliar environments. This particular experience has made me confident in my ability to navigate unfamiliar territories on my own, as long as I have the guidance of maps along the way.
Answer 3:
When was it?
Last year, I experienced an eventful encounter with a map when I ventured into the large shopping district located on the other side of town. I was supposed to meet a friend at a new shopping mall that had opened, and since I hadn’t seen the place before, I kind of felt awkward about how to get there. The area was thronged with people, and it was completely new to me.
Where you were?
With no one to guide me through the messy roads and flyovers, it was easy for me to lose my way. To stay on the right path and on schedule, therefore, I relied on a navigation map on my mobile while on public transport. Also, when finally getting ready for my journey, I verified the route indicated by the map and noted the number and important destinations on the bus.
What did you do?
Throughout the journey, I was tracking my location in real time so that I was moving in the right direction. Whenever there was a doubt in my mind, the map helped me by showing me where I was. Once I alighted from the bus, I again used this map to identify exactly where I needed to enter the mall, along with some cafes that I could wait in until my friend arrived. Because of this map, I successfully reached my destination without an issue, at the right time.
And explain how you felt about it?
The entire trip made me feel very relaxed and thankful to technology for the convenience it provided. The map reduced my anxiety levels, ensuring a stress-free trip. It made me realize how much assistance a map provides to us in our daily lives, especially when one is trying to navigate a different area. It increased my confidence to travel by myself, so I decided to explore even more of Indianapolis by myself.
