What it was?

I have grown up in a village where the usage of computers was very rare. I was not up to the mark with computers. This incident happened when I was doing my master’s degree. I had difficulty using the computer. We were given a particular topic, and then we had to make a dissertation. Our topic was regarded as data-centric. We were a group of 11 students, and everyone was given a particular part of the topic to do research on. I was given a part where all the data regarding the surveys had to be analyzed. All the work of the data analysis had to be done in MS Excel. With the passage of time, the dissertation paper was also getting lengthier in terms of data analytics.

How you got into it?

The only thing I relied upon was my computer. I had all the data stored in it like the charts and the diagram needed for the dissertation. Since I had the data, the whole group depended on me. The worst thing happened on the day of our presentation. Just before our group would be called upon to stage for the presentation, my computer crashed. All our efforts behind the dissertation were in vain. We thought that the professors would not listen to our problem, and simply put a zero on our dissertation.

How you handled it?

Luckily I had the hard copies as backup. We showed the hard copied to the professors. Thus the professors give us a chance of making the presentation verbally and we all do our best, using only our handwritten practicals. The professors were highly impressed by our presentation without a computer. This happened with the cooperation of all our teammates without falling back on the crash of my computer. We helped in putting up our spirits and completed the presentation. Therefore we all got good marks on the dissertation paper, despite the fact that we could give a proper presentation without our data charts, tables, and diagrams.

What it was?

I am a wildlife photographer. I like capturing photos in the wild and using those photos for conservation purposes. I usually go on short trips twice a month. I spent the whole day in the forest, finding the different kinds of species, and trying to get a picture of them in their natural habitat. Then, after I come back, I save that photo on my computer, for later use. I also participate in renowned exhibitions. Through this, I have come across many famous personalities in this field. One of the famous personalities is Sabyasachi Chakrabarty. I have got many awards from him. It can be said that Mr. Chakrabarty has been my inspiration for coming into this field. He is also a big fan of my photos. He says that I have that instinct of clicking a photo with a story in its background. So, since we have a very close friendship, he invites me to his exhibitions and tells me to give some of my masterpieces. And it is very difficult for me to ignore his words. Once he tells me to give him one of my clicks for his exhibition, it means that I will have to give one. Even if I don’t have any stock of good photos, I will have to plan a trip in order to get one, before the scheduled date of the exhibition.

How you got into it?

As I have already mentioned, I save all my photos on my computer, and I largely depend on it at the time of need. But that was the first time when my computer disappointed me. As told, Mr. Chakraborty had arranged for an exhibition at his place and requested me to give some of my clicks. I agreed as I knew that I had some marvelous photos of birds with their chicks, a baboon family, a herd of wild dogs, etc. I knew among all the photos I have, he would surely like the photos of the birds with their chicks. So I readily agreed and then when I opened the computer, I ordered to check whether I had some more nice photos, or shall I give the bird one. My computer did not open.

How you handled it?

I tried to open it a hundred times, but couldn’t. At last, I had to take it to the hardware shop, where I was told that my computer had crashed, and I would be losing all the data, files, etc. Whatever I had in it will be lost. That incident was an upsetting one, as I had to put down the expectation of Mr. Chakrabarty for the first time.

What it was?

Nowadays, the computer plays a very important role in our everyday life, for study-related purposes, entertainment purposes, etc. Now I would like to share an incident where I faced a problem using a computer. Recently I was assigned work to complete assignments for a few subjects, and I had to submit a hard copy and a soft copy both. For this purpose, I made my father agree to buy me a printer, which I had an urgent requirement for. This could save me from going to the printing shop, and could get my hard copies done at the home itself. This could also make my paperwork easier. With high expectations, I bought the printer and started the tiring job of connecting my computer to the printer.

How you got into it?

But all my effort went in vain. I could not connect my computer to the printer even after 2 days of trying. It was giving some errors which I could not understand. I was very frustrated and called the printing company. They checked and informed me that the issue was with the computer.

How you handled it?

Then I had to take the help of one of my tech-savvy friends, who after checking all the things, suggested that I did not have updated software on my computer. That was the reason why the printer could not be connected to the printer. After that, I had to download the updated software and then install it. Then I tried to connect the printer, which got connected at once. Then I took out all the required printouts and submitted my assignments.
